When did you really think..

Flashing Blade

Youth Team
Although I predicted we'd keep a clean sheet to my future father-in-law as I walked away from the Hull game it was only on the basis that weird things like that happen in football.

I never seriously believed beating Manchester United was a possibility...until the 75th minute of the match.

I was reporting on the game on Tuesday and that probably made things easier because your mind is on things that are going on in front of you and you don't count down the minutes like you do as a fan.
Something happened in the game and I looked at my watch to get a time check to write it down and it suddenly occured to me that 30 minutes had elapsed in the second-half and there was only 15 minutes left. I turned to Bernie Friend and said `Bernie, I think we're gonna do this!'

When did the realisation dawn on the rest of you?

it was about 93 mins and 13 seconds, when i was calling the ref a c**t at the TV for allowing an extra 13 seconds!

When flahavan made that fantastic save (his first one from ronaldo) I thought then if that didn't beat himnothing would. At the start of the gamei did say we would win and i did blieve but i think when the whistle went for kick off my nerves got the best of me.

all the best

When Heinze's shot whizzed past the post in about the 81st minute.

I thought we'd do it then, it just wasn't gonna go in for them.

I didnt until the bloody whistle went

I was only worried about them scoring because I didn't want extra time. I had a long drive home, and was ill and felt like death warmed up. The extra time would have meant an even later night, no sleep and work the next day!

Other than that I was quite sure they weren't going to score. I just couldn't see it happening. I actually thought from about 75 minutes, when Roots Hall got significantly louder, that we were going to hang on.

When Wes Brown headed the ball out of play under pressure from Freddy...

When Draw Was Made - Thought We'd Win
When Heard Team News - Thought We'd lose
When Freddy Scored - Thought "Fuppin' 'ell" still thought we'd lose though
Half Time - Thought We'd lose
50 mins - Thought We'd definately lose
60 mins - Thought "hang on we could scrape extra time"
75 mins - Thought "there's a glimmer of hope, hold on lads"
80 mins - (Heinze) Thought we might hold on
90+mins - Thought "Those jammy f*** *** ***s are going to nick it, why is life so quick to **** on your bonfire"
Full Time - Thought I was Elvis Presley

Happy days, sweaty gonads

Was always expecting defeat before the game. During the game I always thought we'd concede in the last ten minutes.

I was still in shock from us scoring, then they went on to hit the post. I turned round to my freind and said, ' mate this good be the night, the night we beat Man U, the night we will remember forever.'

When Ronnie Whelan, having been unusually complimentary about us at half time, said "I think Man Utd will turn this around and go on to win it".

When my brother called about five minutes after the final whistle. The rest of the time I was so stressed I actually had to stop listening.

When Ronaldo took the free kick 5 mins into second half and flav's saved it.
Ronaldo threw his arms into the air as if to say " f%&k sake this goalkeeper is not going to be beaten" and he certainly was not

When Darryl made the first of his saves in the second half. I thought to myself there must be some magnetic force in front of his goal and that Man ure weren't going to score. I then sort of deduced "Hang on, if they're not gonna score, then ...." They don't call me quick on the uptake for nothing.

My lad, however, thought they'd do it before kick-off - as Sky Sports News duly noted live to the nation. His words (which I now have on disc) were "Well, Steve Tilson is a good manager and done really well for us. Freddy Eastwood's a great player and he'll score a goal tonight. And we're gonna win."
