What we need to do to stay up

Course its do-able. However, Southend are well known for their efforts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

To stay up from the position we are currently in would be relatively easy to achieve on papaer - certainly, given our current league placing, we would not be one of the four favourties to go down with the bookmakers.

The trouble is, I am not sure where the next win is coming from at the moment. Only 2 wins since October speaks volumes for where the confidence level is at, and although you would say that it is quite believable that we could attain 4 points from these two home ganes, the reality is without further additions to our squad, it's difficult to see us doing that - so cue a 4-0 and a 3-0 win now I've said that!!

I was happy with a mid Table finish this season after the likes of Gower n Bailey doing runners and was hoping we could build for 2009/2010 season

I for one think we will be ok... but starting to worry about our current form teams like the SadOS and Yeovil picking up points....

WE REALLY NEED THREE POINTS TOMORROW STEVE !!

really what we need to stay up is the ability to actually sign a player on a permantent basis. other teams smaller than us manage to do it so why can't we.

i can't help but think tillys skills in the transfer market are to blame. why not bring in someone to head the transfers. i feel this is our only hope. still use tillys suggestions as he has to have say on who he wants (but then again there are a lot of flops signed for big money) but what i mean is someone to really negotiate and make the club appeal to players.

I think we will be fine but cant see things getting a lot better.

No creativity in the team, little width, poor defence, no strength in depth - you name it. Were poor all over the park bar maybe upfront when Barney and Dougie are actually fit.

Personally I think we will win enough at home to keep us up but I dont think we should be in this shambolic position given the placing we got last year. Long and short of it as good players (Bailey, Gower, Mulgrew and Darrly to a lesser degree) have not been replaced.

You mean like a director of football? Please name one club where that has acutally worked.

That link shows the transfers in league one this year, unfortunately it includes the summer and loans throughout as well I believe but if you look not many people are making signings, and if they are the majority of them are loans. It doesn't matter who you are, you ask Fergie or Wenger they will tell you that people don't let players go in January, certainly not good players as it is difficult to replace them in January. And unfounately we aren't the kind of club that if we show an interest in a player, the player isn't going to demand a transfer from his club.

That's rubbish and it certainly isn't what's important to our survival this season. Yes we do need to get bodies in - but on a permanent basis isn't compulsory for survival. We could sign 4 or 5 permanent players but they could all be utter tosh (high chance of that given the track record) and we could still go down. On the other hand, we could sign 4 or 5 loanees that do really well for us and keep us up - without the extra cost of a transfer fee. I don't think permanent players are a must. Our season is already down the pan so we need to just survive first and foremost. Then we can worry about the squad in the summer and start again.

It works in spain all the time.

It's a good idea, bring in a manager who's good at management, bring in a director of football who's good at judging player abilities/potential and a top negoatiator. Get the manager to always have the final say on each signing and both the manager and DOF search for players.

As I say, if the manager has final say I think it could work in any country, problem is, they often dont.
