Southend chairman Ron Martin has called for calm among agonising fans amid the club's £690,000 bill from HM Revenues and Customs.
Last month HMRC issued a winding-up petition against the Shrimpers, which coincided with their decision to allow clubs more time to pay off their debts.
Martin
has therefore reassured the Roots Hall faithful that their club is safe and that the board will resolve their issues in a similar way to last summer when they met a £660,000 bill.
"The timing could not have been more perverse," said Martin. "It was later described to me as a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.
"Whatever the position, since 12th June we have been in a statutory process that has to run its course. Supporters need not be alarmed."
The club will attend a hearing later in July where they "will seek an adjournment whilst we conclude the agreement with HMRC," according to Martin.
Need not be alarmed!!! We are now.
