Yeah but you save on average 29p on a pie and cup of tea combo !!

Swings and roundabouts !!!

i went Charlton v Fulham the other week with my cousin who's a Charlton fan.

for that game, in the Championship, the cheapest tickets were £17. we paid about £25 and were right near the half way line. our home games in League 1 are £24 (both walk up prices)
now that is a fair difference.

given how empty the south lower is we should defo look at doing that cheaper plus look at doing it cheaper overall, even just an option

i will say in Southend's defence that The Valley was probably about half full so cheap tickets are no panacea

I see we pay £14 to watch a goal being scored! This is the second worst in the league, only beaten by Wigan. Mind you we would take that any day for our league position. Not so good when our season and match day prices are higher than most as well. Next visit I shall buy 15 pies and a gallon of tea to feel I'm moving into bargain territory and not being ripped off?

As always our figures are let down by the fact we don't have a terrace and don't provide cheaper tickets in the less popular areas of the ground.

Our like for like prices for the main stands are still pretty competitive, but other clubs can offer cheaper alternatives.

We dont need the west and South lower to be family enclosures so why they don't offer a cheaper option in the South lower I don't know.

The report does not take into account the 'emotional' cost of watching Southend.
Add that in and I think you'll find we are the most expensive !

I have never had a Kidderminster cottage pie.

Anyone care to talk me through it?

yep you would of thought lower south would be a lot cheaper than it already is as the view is rather poor and it could make a lot of difference with a full lower south stand behind the goal as we don't have any real home and loud noise support behind one of the goals which could be to our advantage.

We weren't in League One last season, though. That's not surprising given our goalscoring problems at home last season. Some goals are priceless though... :pig:

I see they did not factor in blood, sweat, tears and other bodily fluids I have spent over thirty years

Yes - well said. There are a number of factors but high up on the list is if the team is winning and playing well - that brings in the punters far more than anything else. Having said that, I think "special" days (such as low family prices) are worth considering and something the club has done in the past.

Rightly or wrongly there is also a North / South divide on costs for most things, and salaries. My daughter lives in Manchester and is now shocked at how expensive everything seems down here. Plus she earns probably 10% less than she would doing the same job in the South East. The point of all this being, I would imagine our geographical position is also a factor in our ticket pricing, and as with most things we're going to be more expensive than a comparable club based oop narth.

I daresay our ticket price to average salary ratio in our geoghraphical area is probably on a par with most other clubs based in less affluent areas.

But without those important goals we wouldn't have got to Wembley and seen us get promoted. Quite happy for it to cost £14 a goal if we got promoted every season.

Apart from giving out a few free tickets to schools for a couple of games at the end of last season, there has not been a special family type day for a few seasons now. Maybe they should try a few special offers, I think Football League rules allow up to 4 league games per season as special offers.

Mind you with us going quite well we might start getting some 7,000+ crowds without many away fans or special offers.

Just to split hairs last year I dont remember us doing one but we had a football for a fiver the season before so it hasnt been a few seasons.

Definitely shoud be doing one in the early part of the season to give us a boost.

Yep the last £5 match was 23/11/13 v York attendance 9,018 and the one before that was 15/10/11 v Morecambe attendance 9,782. As for the actual 'Family fun days' with slightly reduced admission I cant remember when the last one of those was?
I suppose with us getting towards 7,000 crowds without special offers then I doubt they will be thinking of doing any.

One thing to take into account with our prices are how poor the facilities are at Roots Hall compared to the other grounds, which decreases the 'value for money' you get with watching games here. Paying £24 for a view with multiple pillars obstructing the view, excrement on seats and holes in the roof etc is not good. This is why we badly need a new stadium to progress and attract bigger crowds.

I have been going to Roots Hall on on off since 1980 and Ive never seen excrement on seats. Which part of the ground do you sit in, I think Ill make a point of avoiding it.
