What have you done with your vinyl?

Now this forum has officially become a Nick Hornby novel, it's got me reminiscing about all my old vinyl. There were some real classics in there:

Transvision Vamp - Pop Art LP (signed pre-release version)
Zodiac Mindwarp - Prime Mover (blood red vinyl 12")
Loads of picture discs - Madonna, Genesis, Gary Numan, Madness
Bon Jovi - Dead or Alive (yellow vinyl 12")
Every Genesis album up to Invisible Touch

+ others I can't recall.

Anyway it all ended up at a charity shop. Probably worth a fortune on ebay, but I couldn't be bothered to post and pack them all. I transferred all my CDs to iTunes and gave them away too, so now I'm 100% digital.

It was a real wrench letting it all go (the Mrs insisted!!) brought back lots of memories, but can't say I miss them all. I tend to listen to a greater variety of music now all thanks to the "shuffle", and there's a lot more space in the house (for throw cushions, picture frames and other essential soft furnishings.....)

So, what have you done with yours? Could you ever part with your Star Trekking 12"?

Kept most of my albums but outted most of my singles. Went through a phase of decorating singles so a lot got painted on (and eventually chucked) although I did have the foresight to keep some which I thought might conceivably some day be worth hanging on to! Unfortunately, when bruv-in-law lived with us for a while, he also decided that they might be worth something and half inched them to sell.

I have a couple of thousand records, mostly from the 90's that still follow me around (and are actually with me in Abu Dhabi!) The problem is, with two baby sons I don't get any time to go upstairs and mess around on my decks anymore so they have simply become ornaments. Once a month I have the "discussion" with my missus about "getting rid of those records that are cluttering up the spare room" (her suggestion obviously) but for sentimental reasons I could never let that happen.

I still love the feel of vinyl in your hands and you won't convince me that a bloke on CD mixers with digital displays telling him what to do and when to do it - or even worse - a bloke on a ****ing LAPTOP is really DJing. It's an artform that I plan to teach my sons when they're old enough.

Check this out if you want a laugh. Twiddling a few knobs while a CD plays is not mixing but it's very funny to watch. He must have forgotten his headphones....

All in the loft , Including the Understones single on Lime green vinyl in a clear plastic sleeve and a few of those really floppy single sided things which were given away with magazines (Flexi discs ?)

Does anyone have a vinyl album they really want to get in CD format but can't ?

I can't seem to replace my copy of the Boomtown rats First album

They are all in the loft and I have some real corkers. 7", 12" and Albums. If I ever get to tidy up the loft I will get them all down and have a good go through. There is a turntable you can buy that connects via USB and you can copy them all to your PC and them burn them off. I may well be trying this.

I have some 12" singles from a band called N-Joi, a Southend Band from the 90's. Great Techno/Electro style music.

There is also a USB tape deck available too , mind you, I think I would need a decent bit of scratch / noise removing softeware too

Not so sure about that, FS... reason being is I transmogrified some vinyl onto CD and it's great to hear those scratches:)! It was especially good doing a bit of DJ'ing in recent years when some Norman Hunters came close to the decks & saw the turntables weren't actually playing the vinyl spinning round on them & couldn't work out how the old vinyl sound was being played ! Vinyl is a treasure and my gold is in 'The Attic Studios'...

still got all of mine stored (apart from ALL the ones the ewx wife stole before I got them back from the ex-marital home)

I gave most of it away to my sisters first husband, sold a lot more at boot sales - most of it to other dealers who swarm over it like flies around doo doo.

A few records left, not many.

Still sitting proudly on shelves next to the midi system I got for my 21st birthday, and still played regularly. Obviously the entire Collins/Genesis canon is represented on pristine vinyl - 'tis a thing of beauty.

Please get them out of the loft, as it is the worse place to store them, too cold in Winter, Too hot in Summer, so many get damaged this way

all mine is in my home studio, all shelved and racked nicely apart from some signed stuff that is displayed on the wall of my office

namely my Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye & Omar signed albums
