What Fossetts Farm will look like (if it happens!)

I was having trouble thinking about the scale and location of the place, so knocked this up. One is just the plans (to scale), the other is the 3d rendering laid over their top. Thought you guys might be interested too...

Great work, Sean. Gives a really good impression of how it works.

I have to say, you can see why the Garden of Rememberance people might be concerned, and you wonder what the traffic impact will be on the area. But as Scott says, it's a snug fit - the overall impact on the site looks very minimal, and will of course free up the Roots Hall site on the busier Victoria Avenue.

Looks a good 'un to me.

Yeah, it'll be a bit harsh on the crem going folk.

Hope the wind's blowing in the opposite direction too on match day, or else those sewage works might kick up!

There is however now great possibilites of having pre-match kickabouts in Jones' Memorial ground before / after games...

Maybe someone ought to organise a mini league for fans wanting a friendly kick about. There'll be a nice backdrop!

Good work.  Looks great.

I suppose it's a shame that the land directly behind Waitrose couldn't be used as that could've created a corridor between the crem & the ground.  But I assume that's where the ancient monument (Charlie Benson) is to be found.

Out of interest do we know where the B&Q is going?

What's this Ancient Monument thingy?

The plans have got PLANNED ANCIENT MONUMENT on them, just to the north of Waitrose and in the centre of that bunch of trees shaped like a mishapen "u"...

Many years ago now I was banned from owning a season ticket by Vik Jobson (long story, but basically he had it in for our next door neighbours and decided to take it out on my dad and I too. The funny thing was that Vik lived over the road to us, but had left his wife and moved in with one of the SUFC barmaids.)

Anyway, I decided to go to his new house on a Saturday morning and confront him. We had a really interesting chat for about an hour, the 1st half was me getting him to agree to let me and my dad have our season tickets back and the second half was about SUFC in general. One of the main things he was pleased about was that he had just bought Boots and Laces. He didn't really do it because he thought we needed a training ground, he did it because he believed that it would eventually become the site of our new stadium.

Vik may have been too pig headed and rude to get Southend council to grant planning permission, but you have to admit that he was right!

Scheduled Ancient Monuments
The most important archaeological sites are designated Scheduled Ancient Monuments by the government's Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), on the advice of English Heritage. These are protected under the Ancient Monuments & Archaeological Areas Act, 1979. Ancient Monument Consent is needed from the DCMS for any works or activities, such as metal detecting, digging and ploughing, that will affect the site. (Other forms of consent such as planning permission or listed buillding consent may also be necessary.)

Southend has six such sites:

Prittlewell Camp

At the rear of the Waitrose supermarket in Eastern Avenue, this is a late Bronze Age or early Iron Age (8th to 5th century BC) circular univallate hill fort with extensive views across the Roach valley. This type of hill fort is rare and surviving examples are of national importance. The purpose of this particular example is not yet known. But there is likely to be good evidence surviving below ground.

Might have missed this one with all the new info coming out so quick, but where are the players gonna train when/if the new stadium gets built?

Take a look at the plans again and you'll see a set of training pitches to the north of the stadium complex; I think these are the choking point at the moment as the land lies within the jurisdiction of Rochford Council ...

Cue Tony Robinson.
"Dunno, We'll get Carla from geophys to do some surveys, then put a trench in at point A to intersect with field B."
"Ooh Tony look at this, this is interesting."
"What is it Mike?"
"It looks like classical neo Roman pottery to me. It's a great find, it's stamped Armitage Shanks, must be a new emperor we've never heard of! "
