Wes Fonguck

He came on as sub in their last match, they were 2 down and eventually lost by 6, guess he didn't change the game for the better.

Sometimes he was really good and other times he'd just be watching what's going on and not focusing on helping out his teammates. He's probably an impact sub player at best. I appreciated him staying through the tough times though.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher says Wes Fonguck is still being missed by the Shrimpers.

The attacking midfielder will be back at Roots Hall with Ebbsfleet United on Boxing Day after leaving Blues at the end of the season.

And Maher feels Fonguck’s absence is still being felt.

“First and foremost, Wes was outstanding for us and he was a really great character around the place too,” said Maher.

“He’s someone who is missed in a way around here and he’s a very good footballer who suited our system well.

“We had an option on him at the end of the year (season) but it wasn’t taken up in the end as it overlapped with the embargo coming in.

“Wes was looking at other stuff as well and it didn’t pan out the way maybe he or we would’ve liked but he decided to move on.

“It will be good to see him.”

Fonguck scored five goals in 78 appearances for the Shrimpers but is not the only ex Southend player in the Ebbsfleet squad.

Aaron Cosgrave, Tyler Cordner and Luke O’Neill are all with the Kent club along with Dominic Poleon who was with Blues in his youth.

And Ebbsfleet are now being managed by former Shrimpers midfielder Josh Wright.

If he truly believes he was ‘outstanding for us’ then I’m concerned at his judging of a player. Wes was okay, blew very hot and cold, worked well with bridge at times. That’s about it.

I guess the last two paragraphs explains exactly why they are bottom of the table.
