I just found a fun little fact on Wikipedia... and thought it would be good to have a thread on here where we can all post interesting little snippets etc that will enlighten us all..

While working with Alexander Graham Bell to discover words of greeting, Edison is credited as creating the word "Hello" as a telephone greeting in 1877. Bell, however, preferred "Ahoy-hoy" as a greeting.(Hello is a variant on the old word hallo.)

i thought all Edison invented was the lightbulb!

IIRC Edison didn't patent it and Bell did , they were bothing developing the technology at the same time.

You can Imagine it, Edison completes his first phone, proud of himself he sits back his new device rings and its Alexander Bell !!!
