We tried to get Ifill

that would have been an great signing - but it was never ever going to happen - he's far too expensive.

Encouraging to know we're going for very good quality players.

I agree.
I dunno - I'd be a bit worried about that if I was you. If Tilson is concentrating on unrealistic targets, then he's not going to be putting his efforts into signing players that are actually of a more practical calibre.

Not really! Totally unrealistic and this is becoming a worrying trend with Tilly as we have (supposedly) tried for these sorts of targets before.

To say we tried for Ifil but could not afford the fee or wages - we may as well have bid for Drogba or Henry...

Doesnt take a f%cking genius to work out players like Paul Ifil are out of our reach and going for them is wasting time that could be spent on more realistic targets...

I dont think he is looking at unrealistic targets, just aiming as high as we can.

750,000 is more than we would go for but theres no harm trying at lower than that.

If we were going for Billy Sharp or such like Id think it was a waste of time.

I have to totally agree with pboreham on this one. Just getting everyones hopes up.

signings aren't looking to good as yet!

PS

every time tilly has an interview he says. 'yeah we're looking to bring in 2 or 3 new faces' said that thousands of times. sooooo annoying!

so it's Tilson's fault you got your hopes up?

he went for a player and he's too expensive, so what? At least he's trying to get players to better our position.

I despair sometimes I really do. It seems like whatever he does it's wrong.

There's no harm in faxing Sheff U a bid for it if that's all that our approach amounted too. Very little point in pursuing it much further as our wage capacity was never goign to stretch that far. I think sometimes players we deem as out of reach are worth a call. Guaranteed Championship football is a fairly decent carrot to dangle in front of players.

The fact he's going for decent players is a GOOD sign, much rather that than go for the Billy Paynter's of this world again!!

Besides which I heard we were after Ifill on a loan deal and given our current predicament that was always gonna be more attractive to players like Ifill than a permanent move so we had a chance I think, it's still regular Championship football. It's just unfortunate Palace came in or we may have landed a coup.

With the position we're in loan deals would more often than not allow us to attract better players than cash transfers and when good quality players are essential to get out of trouble that's vital - a lot of players won't consider joining a club seemingly heading for L1 but loan deals are different and a much more attractive proposition if it's just until the end of the season. This also covers us if we do go down cos any big cash signings on huge wages would cause problems if we were in L1.
