We've come a long way...

Matt the Shrimp

aka Harry Potter
Looking at the league table, and in particular the form tables, has made me realise that Oldham Athletic are on an amazing run at the moment... and that they've not merely got a damn good chance of making the playoffs, but might even be eyeing-up the auto-promotion slots.

Whilst I'm not normally one to be churlish, part of me would (in a Keegan-esque manner) love it if they slipped up between now and May 6th. Why? Because Ronnie Moore still hasn't apologised for these comments on 4th September...

"We should be coming to places like this and steamrollering teams. If we had been playing against a top-notch side we would have been dead and buried. Some of the players thought they just had to turn up to win."

We've come a long way this year, haven't we?

Oh, the article in full is here if you want to read it and feel slightly smug...

Peter Jackson of Huddersfield was another who lacked grace albeit after a draw which had seen Freddy banished to the early bath. He was making similar comments about beating the smaller clubs.

Also Parkinsons very churlish remarks after our 3-0 massacre of the Ewes stuck in my craw. I always thought he was better than that.

Perhaps these people should take a lesson from old Mad Dog himself before they make their daft & thought less remarks.

I genuinely feel that Tilly is one of the most honest managers around when it comes to assessing games post match. Long may that continue.

Ronnie 'the Muppet' Moore, what a tw&t. It might be nice for them to come up with us to the Championship so we can do a Col Ewe on them. Second thoughts let em rot in League 1.

Reading the whole article makes you realise how our expectations have changed over the course of the season with Gowers comments - "I do not think we could have hoped for much more.” [when talking about our mid table position].

Maybe now, with promotion within our grasp we have earn't some respect from managers of the so called 'bigger' clubs.

I suppose we better get used to those sort of ignorant comments because next season we are bound to get some more from other clubs with delusions of grandeur. It just means whenever they come our way, or victories will be that bit sweeter.

UP THE MIGHTY SHRIMPERS - THE ROCKY MARCIANO OF THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE!!!!

If it means we keep turning people over, I'm quite happy for people to keep under-estimating us.

I should take a large slice of humble pie for myself though. I said at the start of the season that we'd do well to finish in 20th!
