Wayne Brown

C C Csiders

Life President
Is the latest to put in a transfer request at the sinking ship that is Col Ewe. Could it be that he is a central defender that we are looking at? In my view, he would be a great signing.

Is there any truth in the rumour that Col Ewe players will be donning yellow ribbons ontheir shirts this season in memory of all their missing players?

Wayne Brown would be a great signing - looks like he would run through walls for you.

Cannot see him dropping down to Lg1 though?

Why are all these people deserting the yokels?

Trouble is he is another 6 footer. We need a 6 footer plus in the middle of defence.. Especially with Darryl around.

Any statos out ther know how many goals we conceded from headers inside the 6 yard box last season??

As you state, I think, that is a problem with Darryl not the central defenders.

All of them wasnt it?

Cannot knock Darryl he has been great the last few seasons, just need to protect him a bit more

asking CBs to make headers in the 6 yard box is a dangerous game... that is really the goalkeepers territory and flavs weakness is really commanding it. many goals have come from uncertainty by the CB's and flavs which means a committed striker can come in and score. a taller CB would help but also more work with flavs to try and get him to command his box and boss the defence would be just as useful as well

Please...........Wayne Brown is a useless donkey who's only ability is to head his way thorugh a brick wall.....

Maybe things will improve this season if when the opposition have a corner we dont have a scene resembling rush hour with the whole team back in the penalty area. Cant for the life of me understand this tactic, it hardly paid dividends did it?.
We should look back a few years to the tactic wimbledon used when defending corners. They left 3 men up so the opposition had 4 covering them, with the bonus that if the ball was cleared from the area then there were several options available.
I suppose in this day and age of technical tactics and formations, this ploy is too simple to consider.

agree with that.. leave 2 players up front and they will always leave 3players back so the box is a bit less congested.

i think tilly once said it was the players who wanted to all be back.. but in the end that just shows he is giving into player pressure

Maybe also shows that they do not trust Flaphardon when defending a corner?

Think you have to look at the height of the whole team, the midfield must be the shortest in the League and the likes of Macdonald and Hooper wont provide much resistance.

The thinking behind having all men back rather than leaving one is that the guy left up front 99% of the time didnt get hold of the ball anyway.

The oppostion would have 2 defenders back to mark 1 striker, but you find they generally still have 2 back when theres no one to mark.

Whether it works or not Im not sure.

looks like another one for hull

"Tigers target U's defender swoop Thu, Jul 05 2007 16:31 "

Hull look set to swoop for Colchester defender Wayne Brown after the player revealed he wanted out of Layer Road.
Tigers boss Phil Brown is on the look out for a new central defender after missing out on Chris Lucketti and his namesake could follow in the footsteps of Richard Garcia by arriving at the KC Stadium.
Brown wants to move on and has issued a come-and-get-me plea to the Tigers.

"I believe that interest has been shown from another club, and I would like to be given the opportunity to speak to them" said Brown. "At the moment, I haven't been granted permission to speak to the interested club, but I'm hoping that situation will change.

"A number of things have happened in the last three months and I see moving on to pastures new will be the best thing for me."

Hmmm .. maybe time to wonder whether we should maintain our defensive tactics to protect our goalkeeper ... or change our goalkeeper.
Shot-stopping or commanding? Which attribute is the best in League 1? Flahavan does the shot-stopping bit to Premiership standards but the commanding bit is more Ryman League.

Wayne Brown looked a donkey the first few times i saw him, slow and no touch at all , but he was solid all last season and was one of Col U's top performers.

He is a little simular to Barret in his aggression, attitude heading and tackling , but Barrett does look a lot more comfortable on the ball when in possesion.

My first bet of the season will be to sell Col u's points and possibly buy Hull's.
