Watering the Pitch

Blue Streak

First XI
Not sure if this has been discussed before but can someone tell me why we water the pitch so much just before kick-off and during half-time ? Thought both sets of players slipped over far too much on saturday (especially Black for their 2nd goal). Whats the reason ? Doesnt seem to be helping our team.

I think its because it helps us play the football we like to play, the passing game. I didn't notice Black slip over but most deffo notcied Leon about 3 times. Maybe a little less water next time lol. Saying that whoever does do the pitch does a fantastic job, as it always looks slik and quality.

I was about to post the same thing myself!

On Saturday it seemed to suit Doncaster more than us, as they played the ball on the floor more. With plenty of balls being pumped from the back, it seemed that they didn't realise how the ball skips off the pitch. There were a few occasions when the ball ran along the floor with pace that you could see the spray coming off the ball!!

If they are going to water the pitch so much, at least make sure the players have the correct boots on & not slippers!

I'm guessing they have to to stop the ground becoming to hard. It is still (kind of) warm weather at the moment after all.

I doubt we'll see them doing this in a few week's time.

Black slipped at least once as that's where their second goal came from!

From what i remember though, it was only really Black and Clarke who kept slipping over, so maybe they had moulded studs on. That would probably increase their chances of slipping on a wet pitch.

I've had so much alcohol since the game I can't remember who did/didn't other than Black's faux pas

The Doncaster Chairman or one of the knobs in the directors box was doing his conkers just before kick off and was trying to get them turned off! Bet he was happy though when Black slipped over!

At HT, were they just watering the end we were attacking in the 2nd half? Oldham did this at BP last weekend I noticed, slightly sneaky I felt!

nah each part got equal treatment. i was chatting about it with my dad at half time.

sort your studs out boys... a wet pitch is never an excuse for slipping over, home or away

If it causes us that much problems, why cant we just arrange a short training session after it has been waterd to see what boots/studs are best. Its not rocket science.

Probably because now the training's gone all scientific what with pro-licence input, nutritionists/dieticians etc, they've maybe forgotten such minute details! :D

Arsenal water their pitch, they dont fall over.

It seemed a problem this week, but not prior and the pitch has been watered before.

Think players need to wear the right studs/boots...
