Question Virgin Dial-up Broadband Help

pickledseal

cowboy
Another request for help... I've just been googling this problem and not sure exactly the answer/product I need!

Out in Great Waltham, Virgin will only provide us with dial-up broadband (we used to have cable!) - and we've stuck with them as price is okay and unlimited downloads.

The thing is since the purchase of the Wii, the household has been on my case to sort out wireless! Added to this, is that the missus has now moved in with her wireless enabled laptop AND my new school laptop will be wireless too.... (I'm seeing great gaming potential!)

We have a little Thomson SpeedTouch 330 modem and every time we want to connect to the internet we have to run the little speedtouch program with our username and password (which makes me think setting up a wireless router maybe more problematic!)

Any help advice/links would be great!
Many thanks...
:)

Just get one of these http://www.ebuyer.com/product/52244 and dump the Speedtouch to the back of the cupboard..

Branded routers tend to have better chipsets in themcompared to the unbranded tosh that floats around on fleabay .

Setting it up should be simple - make sure you do it via the network cable that should be included in the box. The username and password for Virgin is eneter into the router and that's it. Remember to setup the WPA /WEP features on the router for added security.

PC World normally have some decent offers for Routers (reserve via the Web, then collect in store)

I *think* so, this is the router - http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=665

We have to double click on icon which has stored password and user name in it, it takes a minute to connect....

ok. you are using that modem to connect (and not an internal modem in your machine) then you have ADSL (broadband)

to check this go to http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html and do the speed test.

let me know what it says. might be able to help
