Video Evidence

steveo

mine to stay the same please
Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association following an incident involving Reading defender Graeme Murty.

He slapped his face. Fair enough, he will probably get a red card punishment The thing that annoys me is why dont they use video evidence to punish the cheats?

Did anyone see Gerards pathetic attempt to get a penalty against Blackburn? Absolutely disgraceful. If the FA started banning players for diving or trying to con the ref, it might bring and end to it.

And Drogba tonight. Disgusting behaviour. The ITV Commentator got it right when he said "he probably has the lowest pain threshold in the Northern Hemisphere.

they use video evidence for times that the ref did not see an incident. whilst i agree that there should be stricter bans on diving, the ref saw both the gerrard and drogba incidents and chose not to do anything (wasn't 100% sure it was a dive, which is fair enough at full speed in a footy game, spotting a dive isn't straight forward)... and retrospectively dealing with it is basically admitting the ref got it wrong and reversing his decision

So what? It is fairly obvious that a panel viewing a slo mo replay will be able to make a better decision.

If they bought this in and started giving bans to players, surely managers would instruct the players to stop diving. At the moment it seems its better to take a chance on getting booked and possibly getting your team a free kick or penalty.

i understand your point, i think the issue is whether you want the ref to have the final say, or for his power to be undermined by an anonymous panel behind the scenes. personally im a believer that the big decisions should be left to the ref on the day, and his word is final. if something happens behind his back and it isn't spotted, or a clear case of mistaken identity is made then retrospective action is fair enough. i also think that the assistants should have to act more to help the ref out. Because the refs and assistants are only human, and will make mistakes, then where will the line be drawn as to the rights of panels to interfere? is it only for simulation, or handball, or in the box!?

I've always said that video evidence should be used to punish diving players with bans. Not every time a player goes down without contact as I don't think this is necessarily the case but players should accumulate points for each time they go down attempting to win an advantage over their opponent. Gerrard could have accumulated enough of these in one game to be honest.

Why can't the FA grow some balls and actually tell clubs how it will be rather than worry about Ferguson/Wenger complaining that Rooney/van Persie is banned for going down without contact?

This and abuse of officials probably annoy me more than anything else in football at the moment.

Which one of Gerrard's dives are you referring to?

Didn't Hansen think they were all cast-iron penalties to Liverpool (plus ca change).

This is something that annoys me too, but what Pubey has said is spot on
In theory yes, but in practise we are seeing more and more cheats so something else should be done to try and stop it. Football must be the only game in the world where players are encouraged to cheat. Why should we put up with it?
If we ever got a player who went down as often as Drogba, I would boo him and would hope most of our fans would join me.

BILLERICAY BLUE They should use it to get John Terry banned for kneeing Torres in the kidneys last night.

I think you will find they operate a different system for current England internationals.

It happens in cricket, and has done since at least the days of WG Grace; it happens in rugby where any flanker worth his salt is trying tog et away with as much as possible; it happens in cycling and athletics when competitors are encouraged to pump themselves full of drugs. The name of the game has always been to get away with it. What has changed is that video replays can highlight how much players like Gerrard cheat.

yep that just makes their sports a total farce. Anyone found taking drus whould be banned for life.

The thing that really annoys me is the way footballers are constantly trying to con the ref. Its hard enough for the bloke to run the game which is why I want these people retrospectively banned, or in the case of Drogba, deported.
