When are you going because it is such a tourist trap that people get shipped in from all over the place so the main hours between 10am and 4pm tends to be busier then at any other time.

Venice, despite being infested with nearly as many tourists as pigeons, looked run down to me and in need of a lick of paint. Maybe you could ingratiate yourself with the locals by taking a tin of paint and trying to spruce it up a bit?

Right mate.....I took Mrs DtS last year as a suprise for her birthday. We also went Friday to Sunday and it was more than enough....

Things to see are fairly standard but the main things are St Marks square, the bridge of sighs and various chappels and churches.

Personally we had as much fun just walking round and discovering the place.

As warnings from me

1) Its a total knock so take lots of money everything is really expensive and

2) Assuming you going with a bird tell her not to take her best shoes as lots of venice gets flooded in the morning and you have no option but to walk through the water. Mrs DtS managed to ruin a brand new pair of shoes.

3) Food is well expensive anywhere remotely close to the main square but if you can be arsed to walk for ten-fifteen mins then you can eat well at UK sort of prices.

4) Assuming your flying to Marco Polo loads of people say get a water taxi but it was about £30. We got a public boat taxi and cost us about £2 each way. Be warned though it does stop a bit before you get to Venice main square.

5) Get a map as all the streets look the same.

Have a good one son.

We did the same sort of thing a few years ago.

We did venice in a day, you are probably best off ending up the station end in the evening rather than St Marks Square as it is a bit Covent Gardenish and and lively.....St Marks Square is just expensive.

The beach at Lido is well worth a lazy day, and the glass factorys at Murano is worth a visit

I took Mrs BB about 7 years ago for our 1st wedding anniversary. It's great but can be a bit pricey if you eat anywhere near the tourist places ie. St Marks, Rialto Bridge etc. If you haven't booked accomodation yet, think about booking on the Lido, as it's a bit cheaper and still only 10 mins from St Marks Square. As DtS said, get the Vaporetto (?) to your hotel, it's much, much cheaper and is Venice's equivalent of the Tube. We arrived at about 5pm on Friday night, and were travelling in the rush hour, it was a hoot.

Mrs Statski will enjoy it whatever you do !

The glass factory is good, but they will expect you to buy something, so be warned........
