A press conference has been called by the ECB with speculation mounting that Michael Vaughan is standing down as England Captain following the series defeat by South Africa and his own poor form with the bat.
Best England captian since Mike Brearley. The right decision to go but hopefully he can make enough runs now in county cricket to force his way back in as a batsman.
Same traits as Chris Gayle, and he hasn't done too bad as Windies Captain.Matt the Shrimp said:I foresee a tough couple of years until a decent captain emerges from the squad. I cannot imagine how the hot-headed, narcissistic and self-absorbed Pietersen will be (a) a leader of his fellow players; and (b) a great tactician on the field.

FWIW I think KP is the only option, and from what I've read this morning, he's already told Peter Moores what he thinks of him and the way he runs the team. Could be interesting.
Can't find it now in the Telegraph, but as there's 7 pages worth in there, I might have missed it, it might have been in Mrs BB's Daily Mail.
There is an article in the Telegraph by Simon Briggs, which ends stating the same concerns about PM as you've posted above.
Are you sure you didn't write the article ;)number11 said:Cheers I will have a look. With Fletcher he came in with a plan and a vision of how we were going to win test cricket.....I just cant see what Moore's overall plan is in test or one dayers. He seems like an amiable guy but think after such a succesful and long (in cricket coach terms) reigh as Fletcher, the next appointment usually is a fall guy. (similar to successors of iconic football managers struggling to live up to the legacy).
Get someone fresh in, put the ashes success era behind us and move on now.
(BTW I would have liked Vaughan to stay on but with him going Id now advocate a bit of a re-think).

I agree. Essentially, Thursday's game is a bit of a freebie. I'd be inclined to try a couple of things out. Strauss is not the player he was 3 years ago, and isn't going to get any better. Also I think he's inhibiting Cook, as they play in similar styles. We need to get a another opener in, preferably right-handed. So I would bring in either Key or if we're being brave Denly. Push Bell up to three, and tell him he is the man to shape our batting. KP at 4, Colly at 5 bring in Bopara at 6 and tell him he is guaranteed the next 15 tests. By that stage he will have played on a variety of wickets and under differing conditions, and we'll have a far better idea of whether he is good enough. (same goes for Denly if we pick him). Flintoff at 7, Foster at 8, Anderson, Harmy and Monty making up the rest. Sidebottom is blatantly unfit, and Broad needs to learn how to move the ball, either off the pitch or in the air. He will be Freddie's replacement in 2 years time, but he needs to learn his trade.
Hopefully, we could get enough overs out of Ravi / Colly / KP to make it work.number11 said:Not bad side, though think the 5 bowler argument will surface
