Valencia v Inter

Valencia through on away goals rule after 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Worth watching for the all-mighty punch-up at the final whistle with players and officials fighting on the pitch, in the tunnel and in the changing rooms! Inter appear to have been very sore losers ...

wat is it with with fighting all of a sudden, the carling cup final, then ****nal's and Chelsea's reserves decided to re-inact it, and now this

Spanish TV showing it over-and-over. It seems that Inter's Cordoba had a bit of the ****ache with Valencia's Marchena at the final whistle and tried to attack him. As he was being restrained, one of Valencia's subs (Navarro?) walked up and took a sly jab with the right-hand; the coward ran off being chased by three or four Inter players; all hell breaks loose; DaCourt tries to take out (Navarro?) with a flying kick; officials, first aid staff, clipboards all over the place; Joaquin being restrained on the touchline by several security staff; Inter's Ibrahimovic strutting around trying to take on the world; cut to the tunnel, fists flying; security staff struggling to contain Inter officials who appear to be trying to storm the home changing room; back out on the pitch and first aid staff are treating the walking wounded. Such great entertainment! Knowing Spanish TV, this will be played for weeks! Ace!

Dacourt?! Olivier Dacourt?! Christ on a bike, he must be pushing 70 by now - When the heck did he learn dropkicking?

anyone see that roma goal with the stepovers/lollypops?? class!

It was like South American football, never seen anything like it. I watched the Liverpool game and then put on Sky Sports and it was carnage. Thought it was hilarious the way that chap who landed the sly punch got chased around the pitch. It was like something you see on a football funny DVD. Inter are surely going to be punished this time!

I think Valencia are likely to be punished as well. According to Super Deporte, Inter are claiming that Navarro broke Burdisso's nose and wondered why a non-playing substitute was getting involved in a skirmish that was otherwise calming down. They claim that the punch exasperated the situation and that, whilst their players reacted badly, they could understand the anger. Inter keeper Toldo smashed open the door to the Valencia dressing room to try and confront Navarro; the coward had tried to slip away to what he thought was relative safety. Even old-man Figo was seen to be exchanging a few punches with the Mestalla security staff! What a night! I wish I'd got to the game now!

Punished as well?!

Valencia should be thrown out of the competition for their part.

I've watched it about six times now and it is very hard to keep track of the fracas as it is going off everywhere, however without a doubt the majority of the blame lies with Valencia IMO. And the most baffling thing is why they even got involved when they were the ones who went through.

I particularly dislike the Italians when it comes to football, but for me they reacting (wrongly so obviously) to the Spanish taunting and then the cowards punch.

If Feyenoord can be chucked out of the UEFA Cup for their fans brawling then without a doubt in my mind, Valencia should be kicked out of the Champions League too. Navarro should also been banned from European games for rest of 2007 and made an example of IMO.

I predict that Liverpool, being an incredibly flukey team, will now get Valencia in the next round of the non-Champions revenue-generating league, and either face a team with all its players suspended or get a bye.

Incredibly flukely?

Did you watch the first or second legs game?! :thump:

didnt something similar happen in the world cup when one player did a drop kick or something. i seem to remember it being argentina, but not sure?

Oh, don't get me wrong! I agree! Navarro should be kicked out of all competition, not just the Champions League. But I think it would be harsh for Valencia CF to be kicked out for the actions of one stupid lad. The images have been on Spanish TV all morning and it's clear that the vast majority of the Valencia players are trying to calm things down; Joaquin and Canizares in particular are acting as peace-makers before the idiot arrives and throws the punch. But Inter reacted much the same as they've reacted in the past when they have lost in Europe; the fracas in the tunnel was inexcusable and the damage done to the Valencia changing rooms by the Inter keeper was sheer vandalism; what on Earth was Figo doing trying to take on half-a-dozen security guards?

I try not to as the non-Champions revenue-generating League bores me. I was more interested in the Holland v India world cup warm-up game last night, but got outvoted, so ended up watching a bit.

I didn't say that Liverpool were flukey in beating Barca, I think they were more flukey in their timing of playing a Barcelona who are in a complete mess at the moment. Barca are turning into the new Real Madrid, with a galaxy of galaticos but lacking in teamwork. On the passages of play I saw, its no surprise that they have lost to Sevilla and Valencia in recent weeks. I was very disappointed in how predictable their passing was and even more disappointed in their lack of movement.

Barca were shocking... need a clear out and some players who want to play... puyol is the only player who seems to give everything for the team... playing thuram over zambrotta was a joke

barca are all about the names. half the players never perform, only against the lower league teams. liverpool looked really good last night

Absolutely bloody ridiculous!

Navarro gets a 7 month ban (that I can accept), but the clubs are fined...

106 grand. Wow. That's really going to hamper them. They probably make that much from a single home game!
