Valencia gives up no 7 shirt

steveo

mine to stay the same please
Saw this. Surely paving the way for a big signing.

How about Walcott goes to Man U, Rooney to Arsenal and Manu agree to move aside and let Arsenal side Fellaini?

Apparently it's because they are signing Ronaldo.

The more likely reason is because the pressure of wearing the no.7 at united when such greats as Bryan Robson, George Best, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Ronaldo have all worn the shirt. Unfortunately Antonio Valencia doesn't quite fit in that bracket.

I always thought Valencia could do a good job as a right back. Big strong fast.

Yeah can see that but I think Rafael is a much better right back and Valencia wouldn't get a look in if Rafael is fit. I could see them offloading him in the summer unless he has a good season.

They wouldnt want Arsenal to get Rooney and Fellaini and for them to get Walcott, Arsenal would be getting the much better deal there.

They have kept it open because they want to try to sign Ronaldo. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen but I fear for the rest of the league if they do!

Valencia is class for United. Admittedly not number 7 material but I bet you most United fans prefer him to Nani and Young.

I personally reckon that Bale will be the target for Moyes and not Ronaldo, I just can't see him leaving.

Spurs won't sell Bale to Madrid they are definitely not going to sell him to United.

Spurs had a price they were willing to sell at. Madrid didn't meet that. Man Utd might (but I doubt it), and nether the less, the window shuts soon and so spurs probably wouldn't have time to spend any of it.

Still think Bale will be at Madrid and Suarez at Arsenal come 31st August.

Not sure about Rooney moving and think Ronaldo will move to Man Utd if they meet the asking price, which I think is quite unlikely.

I love Tony Valencia.

This is one of the best crosses ever.

Well Spur shave spent quite big already even though they apparently need money for a new ground so i'm guessing they have planned on Bale going.

I think they'd still look to replace him with a small part of the cash they got from selling him.

Agree though, they look willing to sell - for a price.

If you can ignore last season, Valencia's probably the best out-and-out winger in the Premier League. Quick, powerful and the ability to beat a man and deliver a cross at speed. If this was the late 1990s, he'd be one of the Premier League's most revered players. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great player to have, but the game's moved on from having midfielders who are as limited as Valencia and as such, he'll probably be limited to a impact-sub role in the future.

Valencia ditching the #7 shirt means sweet **** all, though. Anybody who sees that as a "clear sign" that United are clinching Ronaldo or any other big name player is deluded. United might well go out and bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, but it will be because he's unsettled at Madrid/vexed by Bale's arrival and price tag/wants to be adored, not because Antonio Valencia has graciously vacated the shirt he used to wear.

If I was a Spurs fan, I'd consider Suarez's statement this morning to be of a far graver concern. His pleading with Liverpool fans this morning is so transparent. Suarez wanted Madrid, and was happy to entertain Arsenal's advances as it not only sent the message to Liverpool that he wanted out, but made Madrid aware that he was happy to leave. His backtrack this morning would indicate to me at least that Madrid aren't interested, possibly because they're at an advanced stage with Bale.
