USB Data Recovery

Could someone help with this?

My USB, when plugged in, won't work, with Vista asking me to format it. I don't want to lose all my data, but can't find any free software that will recover it for me.

It's got my Media and English coursework on there, so I really need it to work.

Ask a friend who's on Windows XP and try it on their PC. Never had the problem on XP

Cheers, didnt realise that, have now got it all backed up elsewhere. Is it safe to format it now and then copy the stuff back onto it?

If it's all backed up and you've got copies of it, I don't see why not .
