Unreserved Seating

One O'Clock At The Crane

It's not often in the past decade that you could say that Roots Hall suffers from crowd congestion but the last year has seen that very thing happen.

It seems to me that a lot of the problems stem from the newer - and very welcome - supporters (i) unable to locate the turnstile they have to go to and (ii) not knowing where their seats are then standing in the middle of the stairwell looking bewilderingly for their seat.

I would have thought that introducing unreserved seating in areas that are usually sparsely populated might alleviate this. Turnstile numbers would not be needed - just a big sign imaginitvely titled "Unreserved Seating."

From my vantage point in the RBS, it looks to me as if a section of the South Lower, a section of the East Blue / Yellows and a section of the West towards the North Bank could be used for this.

It would also have the advantage of you being able to just get out of your seat and go somewhere else of someone around you is getting on your tits!

Good idea? Bad idea?

No idea

It's certainly worth giving it a try I reckon, though you're bound to get some people moaning because they can't sit in the seat they sit in every week, etc. Season tickets might prove a problem too.

I think it would depend on the people that frequent that area of the ground you speak of. If you are a seaso in the South Lower and a happy bunny with your seat how would you tell him\her thanks for your support but you can no longer reserve the seat you have sat in for the past x years.

If your talking about a corner of the North however

Good idea. One of the main reasons there is no atmosphere in the Hall is because those fans that like to make a bit of noise can't always find eachother in the way they do on away trips.

Question for McScrivenberg: is there any legal reason why we couldn't do this in certain areas?

Unreserved seating has been one of my causes. It encourages singers to band together. Non smokers to be able to go elsewhere. Kids to mingle together. Encourages people to get there early. in fact it has so many pluses I have no idea why the club don't have an area for this.

I pretty much buy my ticket then sit wherever there's a space anyway. I've never been asked to move. Presumably I've been lucky.

Anyway, seems like a good idea to me although how people can't work out a simple system of letters denoting rows and numbers denoting seats is beyond me.

In barcelona (nou camp) you actually get a ticket with a block number on it and you sit in any row and seat you like..

They work on a 1st come 1st served basis

As long as it didn't get introduced in the Greens, I wouldn't be too fussed.

Bad idea if you ask me!

What if you get to the game with only minutes to spare by no fault of your own.

Least with the pre-paid ticket, no matter how early or late you get there you are guarenteed that seat!

I say give us half the North Bank for games where clubs only bring down a handful of fans!

UP THE BLUES!
