Youth Team
Hi Everyone!

Watford fan here. I saw Chris Phillips tweet earlier that Phil Brown was at our training ground on Tuesday watching our friendly against Northampton as we have offered another one of our players for you to take on loan. Not sure who that might be yet but my money is on Uche Ikpeazu - a young striker we signed on pro terms from Reading in the summer.

I know Phil is after a striker with a lot of pace and Ikpeazu is very similar to Assombalonga in terms of his power and speed. He is very highly rated and scored 28 goals in 28 games last year for Reading's Under 18 team and suffice to say, we won the race for his signature from a lot of other competing clubs including Reading who were 'royally' ****ed off I have to say..

He is in need of a club to go out on loan to as he won't get a game for us this season with too many players ahead of him, and it will be a very exciting and good fit for him to go to Roots Hall for the season.

If I hear anything more I'll let you know - best of luck on Saturday against Chesterfield!

Sounds good. Pleased we have this relationship with Watford as you do have a track record in producing good young players in recent seasons.

Sounds very interesting. If he is half as good as Britt he will be very welcome here.

Good luck to the Hornets versus Notts Forest.

Thanks for info,

I saw that on CP's twitter and wondered if it was a striker he was after. Lets hope he is as good as if not better than Assombalonga.

Thanks for the information but ..........

........... one has to ask why he (Ikpeazu) signed for a club (Watford) when there was no real chance of him getting to play 1st team football.

The answer is of course the loan system.

And that same loan system benefits clubs with cash and the system denies clubs like Southend the chance to benefit from the sale of players. Britt was a much better player after a season with us and Watford received £1m+ for the sale.
Even taking into account the goals scored, I know which club got a better part of the deal.

You think the answer is the loan system and not that Watford offered him a stack more money?

You don't like the loan system much, do you?

It's a by-product of a game saturated with greed at the top level I'm afraid. You'll have to get used to it.

The loan system makes sense for all parties, if used properly, which is to cover for injuries.

Hence Thompson signing on loan to cover Bennett and last year Assombalonga signing for half a season when Corr was returning from injury and Freddy was fit but not fit. We don't want to sign a defender this season because we'll then have too many when Bennett is fit again, so we sign a young one on loan from a team higher up. We benefit from not carrying too many players, they benefit from him getting experience.

I'll be annoyed if we sign a forward on loan unless it is with a view to a permanent move. That's a short term fix for a long term problem.

Haven't we got 5 strikers? why do we sign players, pay them and don't give them a chance to play?
I can accept the necessity for centre back loan at present.
As for the loan system and the transfer window it is balls! and it is not for the long term benefit of players or poorer teams but rich clubs and agents.

Indeed. :thumbsup:You not speak with fork-tongue. For the benefit of the richer clubs and removal of income from the poorer clubs.

We all know the strength of the English game is the depth of clubs across the country. So why is it being undermined by the Football League and the Football Association.

5 strikers?

We have Eastwood and Corr.

Reid may prove to be useful but still has no pace.

As for the loan system, before condemning it remember without it we wouldnt have seen the likes of Federeci and Dervitte play for us. Nor would Assombalonga have had the chance for first team football which led to his move to Posh.

I agree that the system is not entirely without benefit ............ but overall, in the long run, when all is said and done and getting towards the end of the day, I do not feel that it is healthy and is biased towards clubs with more financial muscle.

And watch out for double edged swords. For all the times quoted about loan players scoring for us, I could (if I could be bothered) trawl through the archives and find the times when loan players have scored against us ........... remember Grimes at Lincoln anyone?

Watford are our feeder club

Just spoke to a WFC supporting mate he descibed him as.... a unit and scored a sh*t load of goals at youth level. Snap him up

I thought Cowan was our solution to our lack of pace? Perhaps Brown thinks he's better on the wing. Would like to see him given more of a chance before another loan signing. The loan system certainly has its uses, we probably wouldn't have got to Wembley last year without it, but I think having too many loan players was also a problem last season.

We currently have Eastwood, Corr, Njie, Cowan and Reid. Njie will probably be loaned out for experience. Eastwood and Corr aren't fast. Cowan is injury prone and Reid is still bedding in and isn't really fast either. Nothing wrong with another striker.

Also, Cowan's contract is up soon. Could well be leaving to make room.
