TV Choice

Right I have an xbox 360 and I have a 32inch Cheap thompson tv because the screen is so big there is a great loss in quality in things like small text is blury etc...

So my thinks 360 needs a decent tv to make things even better, I mean Project Gotham Racing 3 graphics are SUPERB on my TV and on a HD tv would just be the dogs bollox

So I had a butchers in Tesco last night in Southend now that it is an 'Extra' and I saw a few things...

50 inch Rear Projection Sony Bravia? HD Ready £999.99

that looked the pick of the lot but my question is what is the diffrences in these I know that rear projection takes up more space

Plasma?
Lcd?
Rear Projection?

Thanks

Got a Panasonic LCD almost 2 years ago & I've had no bother with it all (touch wood).
not for games why not?

Basically the high resolution of fast moving games causes problems with the plasma. Not especially techy but that's what I've been told by my mate who's up on all this kind of thing. It's a similar thing to pubs with plasmas who show Sky Sports News all the time, after a while a shadow can be seen where the panels of text appear if you change channel.

You'll be much better off with a Panasonic Plasma than an LCD or rear projection, especially if you like blacks to be black and for your DVDs to have a nice depth. Screen burn is no longer a problem with plasmas released in the 21st Century unless you decide to leave it on Sky Sports News for 24 hours a day months at a time.

If you need info check out the following forum, you won't find a bunch of more knowledgable people on home cinema -->

AV Forums

The current plasma I'd recommend is the Panasonic TH42PX600 but as I say have a read of AV Forums.

I'd go for a Cathay, Lloytron or a Hinari.

In all seriousness, I am looking for a wall mounted flat screen.

I quite like the look of the Pioneer 43" Plasmas.

Can anyone give them a thumbs up?

Pioneer do awesome plasmas.

The Pdp-427XD looks real nice, there's a thread on AV Forums from a bunch of people who have it -->

Got Pioneer Pdp-427xd Today

Just FYI they've standardised the screen size to 42" with the lastest models released this month.

A rear-projection TV won't be HD either.
There's a lot of confusing jargon surrounding HD - all HD means is a picture with a resolution of greater than 800x600 pixels (which is what a standard definition TV, regardless of size, can display). HD can't be carried by SCART or composite. To get the best from your 360, get yourself the HD VGA cable kit (the cable has the square-ish connector with 8 little pins, the same as a computer monitor cable) and an LCD/Plasma screen with a VGA input. You want the highest resolution you can afford - and in Widescreen.
