True Supporters

[Suffolk Blue]

A word or two in support of some of the players in the team I follow.

Che Wilson, Drewe Broughton, Bart Griemink etc. will all probably play for the Shrimpers next season and if, as you all seem to believe, they are short of ability then they are going to need all of the encouragement they can get (i.e. all we can give them).  What they don't need is people moaning and carping about them from the safety of either the stands or the internet in the way that they have with countless others over the years.

This applies to ex-Col Ewe players, new goalies, strikers hitting a barren patch, and players playing out of position because we haven't got anyone else resistered and fit.

In my book, at this level the only real crime is not displaying the right attitude.  That means trying as hard you can, supporting your team mates and showing a little gratitude now and again to the people who pay (at least some of) your wages.

As long as a player does all of these then I will support them and try to encourage them to the best of my abilities because thats what I think a true supporter does.

I appreciate that we're all entitled to voice our opinions but when these are destructive then what are they designed to achieve?

I will reserve my criticism of Wilson and Broughton to this board and discussions in the pub. I don&#39;t really want to see either of them play for us next season or indeed ever again, but when they do, I&#39;ll be cheering them on.

I fear I won&#39;t be able to stop myself from screaming &quot;For f**k&#39;s sake Broughton&quot; next time he misses a free header from six feet, but I&#39;ll try and keep it quiet

If someone has some first hand experience of a player and expresses their views on here about a player then surely they can do that on here. What you people forget is that they aren't shouting from the stands yet so why can't they post on here if the people who own it let them they shouldn't be shouted down just ignored. If someone came on and posted let's all shot at Griemink in East Thurock because he's sh*t then maybe posting saying "You King ****" would be viable, but ohwell ranting. People shouldn't have a negative view of a player at the start of the season, new day as they say.

Trouble is they hear web-chat as well.  While its not as bad as shouting at them from the terraces I still think it must be demotivating to them; its more on a par with having an article published about you in the local rag.  I'm not advocating stopping people voicing opinions of a particular players abilities or performances but more to the continued Donkey, Cumbersome, Wheelchair, Forrest Gump sort of comments.

I suppose players must learn to disregard web chit-chat which at least is away from the pitch as opposed to the comment immediately after a poor pass or missed shot when they must be feeling pretty p1ssed-off as it is.

On the other hand views expressed about players to mates down the pub aren't going to bother them at all and as for stopping yourself screaming ""For f**k's sake Broughton" next time he misses a free header from six feet" well we're only human.  I just like to see it balanced with a couple of "Well dones" and "Good try"s now and again (I know I sound like I'm a throwback tothe 1930s now but hopefully you get the jist

There is a special exemption for all those not living within 3 miles of the ground.

You have to swear allegience to super Kevin Maher and promise to clap Drewe Broughton every time he controls a ball. (in fairness clapping him once a month isn&#39;t gonna be 2 hard

I also think those living east of Thorpe Bay are also exempt. They&#39;re harmless and most of them come to matchday on Sunshine Variety Coaches to be stuck away in the depths of the East somewhere.

I did hear a rumour that zits and burberry hats were also the sign of a true supporter but I could be wrong.

Shouting &quot;For f**ks sake Broughton&quot; during the match is counter-productive, however much you might want to do it. Going to the pub afterwards and saying &quot;Broughton was sh*t today&quot; is a totally different thing.

There&#39;s not much point to a fans forum if people who are mainly or entirely brought together through that forum and their common love of the club can&#39;t express their honest opinions. It&#39;s made awkward by the fact that the players themselves can come here and read the views, but they&#39;ll also usually read contrary opinions in their defence from other posters. (Although some of them, being footballers, probably have to have it read to them

).

One thing we really don&#39;t want to see is people not being allowed to express opinions, however wrong they may be. They can always be shouted down by the majority if they&#39;re out of order.

PS Sorry Drewe, just picked a name at random for the above examples, it could have been anyone....
