Trouble at the Cottage

Sandbach Shrimper

Life President⭐
Saw it briefly on the ITV news, looked pretty ugly. Don't see scenes like that much these days. For those that don't know, Fulham fans invaded the pitch after their 1-0 win today and a few Chelsea fans then went on and there was a bit of barney.

Well done to Fulham, seeing Mourinho spit his dummy out when Drogba's goal was disallowed was priceless. And Gallas deserves to be punished by the FA for that challenge on Helguson. Disgraceful.

When Fulham scored I couldn't work out if there was a few Fulham fans in the Chelsea end, or loads of Chelsea in the Fulham end.

great score though.

Power To the People !

Wolfie Smith and all that~ the Tooting Popular front will be happy.

It's something Fulham have been working on for a while. When I lived in Chiswick - just down the river from Fulham - I received several bits of junk mail about it.

Basically, they are trying to sell Fulham as a 'family club' and that anyone can enjoy the matchday experience at Craven Cottage whether they support Fulham or not.

I suppose it's not a bad idea, although not one that ever appealed to me of course...

Blimey, I had no idea that the Premier$hite was marketing itself quite so nakedly as bland corporate / family entertainment in an American sports model, rather than the cornerstone of fierce tribal and community pride - with all the good and bad aspects of that - that I thought was the game of football that I knew and loved...

The logical extension of Fulham's argument, of course, is that it wouldn't matter if FFC where in Fulham or Farnborough... "we're a family club, you see, anyone can enjoy the matchday experience..."

Bit risky isn't it in a local derby?

It is...but that's our mentality. Works well in rugby, in fact evryones mixed...and you can get pi$$ed on the stands

Missed the game yesterday, but saw it all this morning. How the assistant saw it I don't know, but the you can't say Chelsea don't deserve the misfortune!

But this isn't rugby is it? It's football, a sport that generates proper passion amongst the fans not just some excuse to get the old school chums together to sing silly drinking songs and get their knobs out!

Would it be such a bad thing if football fans mixed together like they do at rugby games?

Granted, it's unlikely to work for derby games, but I've been to plenty of London Broncos rugby league (now called Harlequins RL

) matches where there's no segreagation. Everyone has a beer, has a laugh and there's never any tension. Very enjoyable.

Wouldn't work for me. I'm happy to have a drink with the opposition before and after the game, in fact I enjoy meeting and chatting with fans from other teams.

However when the game's on they are the enemy for 90 minutes. As Artful Shrimper says that is just the culture in football and as far as I'm concerned long may that tribal element continue.
