Undisclosed fees. Whats that about? Surely at some point the books would have to reveal the figure so why not tell us. It would bolster the fans to know how much the club have dipped into their pocket and give us a better indication of the clubs ambition. That said. Well done SUFC. The new stadium fears still haunt me but acts such as this instil a greater level of confidence for the future. Tilly and Brush seem to be incredibly shrewd when it comes to signings and I don't expect Gutteridge will tarnish their record. Whoopeee!

Echo reports fee "could eventually be worth £40,000" (yes, forty grand). A far cry from the 300+ he was being touted at last year. Still, their loss.

Forty grand for an established player like Gutteridge is good business if the Echo's report is correct.

I'm quite surprised they let him go for so relatively little, but hey, I'm not complaining!

Anyone know of any other big/important transfers in the division that we should be aware of, aside from kirk (and guttridge obviously

)?

I'm very surprised nobody has openly put a bid in for Martin Devaney yet. The BBC teamnews reckons he'll be back in their team tomorrow so I hope his recovery won't haunt us!

I think everybody in football knows Cambridge needs every penny it can get now so it's a buyers market. Whilst it's always pleasing to sign a player than genuinely strengthens our squad, I still feel a pang of sympathy for our friends up the M11, especially as 18 months ago we appeared to be heading that way too.

Indeed, Cambridge's plight is sad but not unexpected. They've been struggling for a few years now, and to be in the position where they're having to sell their best players to make end meets will sadly not help their survival hopes.

At one point last season I had almost lost hope we were so poor, but they're situation is much worse, as they have the financial axe hanging over them as well.

Good luck to them.

What do the clubs gain from revealing how much they paid?

An undisclosed fee can be as little or as much as you want it to be.

It makes no sense to be publishing to all your rivals how much you are willing to spend on a player (or how little you are willing to sell one of your main assets for) as next time we try and buy a player the other side will turn round and say you spent X on Gutteridge, our man is just as good if not better, we want X+Y.

What must be potentially exciting for the folk of Cambridge is a City V United game in the Conference next season.

What with City being second in the Conf South and the chance of promotion.

Wow what a lip smacker!

I am all in favour of undisclosed fees, stops the player from getting too big a head before he puts a shirt on, as everyone will not be going on about it, or adversely being negative (obviously he knows what it is, but the management teams at both ends can manipulate his thoughts, as to the reasons)
