A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

From books I've read for the vast majority of players particularly at this level it purely comes down to money. Its a short contract, usually 1 to 2 years, and the difference between say an offer of £1000 per week or £1200 per week is a £10k per year difference. Its a lot of money to these guys when they've often got a young family & a mortgage etc. Big club or small club doesn't matter. They go where the best deal is. You would think we could compete on wages with our crowds & parachute money but as we know some of these 'smaller' clubs have very rich owners with very deep pockets & big ego's.

True - and it will also be player/position dependant. Like take a rough example, say we were in for Rees. We have a budget of £1500 a week for players we REALLY want, but with Rees, Brown feels he's covered. It would be a good value signing at £1000 pw but above that we have other options.

So its not always a case of we've been outbid by 'smaller' teams that we should be able to pay more than them - reality is we probably could but in some cases there will be a ceiling of wages where above that its not felt to be a viable deal for us.

I'm not sure how many away fans are allowed but I'd be surprised to see us allowed to take that many.
My understanding is that we may well get two sides of the ground. their fan base is tiny so would have thought they would want as many paying fans home or away as possible

It's not as simple as that though, is it. Let's say a player with a young family comes from the south west, plays in the south west and is on £800 per week. He and his wife have a mortgage and kid is about to start school.

He is then offered £1000 per week on a new contract 1 year extension at his current local club.

Then we come in, offering £1,4000 per week for a 2 year contract but it means renting a place, finding a suitable school and his wife seeking a new job if she is to relocate as well.

And a club up north come in and offer £1,200 per week for a 2 year contract but it means renting a place, finding a suitable school and his wife seeking a new job if she is to relocate as well.

Suddenly we look like the least attractive offer as renting a place will cost more as well as the general higher cost of living... and maybe the right school isn't available etc.

If we were offering £728k a year I'd probably give the kids away to travellers and ditch the wife. It worked for Phil Brown.
