A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I swear most players with the name Smith are Goalkeepers

Off the top of my head, I have watched all of these in an SUFC shirt (and probably others):

Ray Smith
Nicky Smith
Jay Smith
Paul Smith (GK)
Paul Smith
Ted Smith (GK)
Alex Smith

Also Dave Smith was our manager (not a keeper).

That makes 25 percent which is clearly more than one in eleven, so you may have stumbled upon an anomaly - but ’most’ would be an overstatement

They were all decent players too.

Alias Smith and Jones.......

Seen all these in an SUFC shirt and no goalkeepers amongst them.....

Ken Jones
Keith Jones
Matt Jones
Graeme Jones
Nathan Jones
Gary Jones
Steve Jones

Prefer the Smiths myself........

Forgot Ben Smith but not surprising given his one minute only cameo appearance.......but reduces the percentage to 22 percent.

Not sure how many of the above were between 25 and 28 when they played for us.......sorry......

That is some of the most impressive and interesting research I have seen on Shrimperzone.

:Clap::Clap::Clap:

There was also Wally (1909); Stephen (1925); William (1933); Bert (1954); another Ray (1957)
and Ben.

In total, 13 Smiths.

For additional Jones, there's also Mark (1996); Lot (1909); Tommy (1921); Mickey (1929); Benny (1934); Bert (1934); Charlie (1937) and Len (1949);

In total, 15 Jones.

There's 1122 who've played for the club. So that's 1% each.

......but I haven't seen any of them play so they don't count.

......and were any of them goalkeepers?

......and which games did this Mark Jones play in 1996?

.......was he one of Whelan's drinking mates?

I dont know if any were goalies - still working on my spreadsheet!

Mark played 2 games across 2 seasons. A v Grimsby and H to Fulham

Before I get told off for veering off track, has anyone heard any rumours about us potentially signing a Smith or a Jones (between the ages of 25 and 28 of course)?

As @mfurok has predicted, this thread is about Summer transfer rumours, so please stay on topic and the banging on about age has been done to death. @Ricey did ask that the age thing be left alone earlier, so please give it a rest. Thanks.

With apologies to a previous post.....who says we Poolies have no sense of humour?......

Went to both of those games but don't remember him.

Anyone out there remember him?

Mark Jones was a youth team product. Full-back IIRC. Think Michael Gonzague, Danny Foot, Scott Ashenden, Ron Fearon and all those youth team products in the 90s who'd appear in the team photo one year, maybe get a fleeting sub appearance and then never be heard of again.

ps I have no idea why you would have mentally blocked out Grimsby away that season.
