A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Good. For once we aren't actually pushing wages above what we can afford.

It's years of paying ludicrous wages which has led us to where we are.

Pay what we can afford. Even if that means several seasons in the national league.

That should have been our 5 year plan in L1 or until the stadium was given the go and Ron was happy with the backers.

Sadly I was almost am loan voice on here when I suggested that. The one subject most fans and Ron agreed on was foolishly chasing the Championship dream.......Even though we had nearly gone bust the last time when we 'accidentally' won L1.

We sold Stanley Victor Collymore for a few mill to Forest and for the only time in our history we had serious cash to splash…

It still gets my goat that the huge possibilities Stan’s transfer fee (the like of which we may wait years to see again - or never see again) brought to our club was splashed up the wall by Barry Fry and ultimately only benefitted his career and his pocket, not our club. Fry was the right guy at the right time, in my opinion, but his grubby careerism wasted that opportunity. We could have got to the Prem with him in that season and who knows where history would have led us. As it is, those expensive signings faded away, the wrong manager came in and couldn’t maintain the progress we’d made and Fry drifted off into managerial obscurity albeit with a fat payday from Brum. It wasn’t an unreasonable decision of his to go to Brum but I can’t forgive him for it.

It really wasn't.

B***y F*y signed
Ricky Otto (£100,000 sold for £800,000)
Tommy Mooney (£100,000 swapped to Watford)
Jason Lee (£150,000 sold for £175,000 to Forest)
Jonathan Hunt (free - sold for £500,000)
David Howell (free - Birmingham ordered to pay £75,000 compensation for poaching him)
Derek Payne (free - swapped to Watford)

The only ones I don't think we at least broke even on were
Gary Poole (£350,000 swapped to Judas' Birmingham, valued at £50,000)
Graham Bressington (£50,000 - think he retired through injury)
Gary Jones (£25,000 - don't think we got a fee for him but it isn't out of the question)

He may have been a Judas ******* but his transfer activity was highly lucrative for the club. The issue was that Spud was atrocious in the transfer market and then wages went out of control under Whelan.

PM isn’t on our radar anymore.

Thats a shame, liked the sound of him.

However, Jake Hyde sounds good. That’s a name I hadn’t heard yet. Think him and Murphy would be a good pairing at this level. A massive step up from last season.

I was led to believe we should see another signing over the line by the end of the week, and PB is hopeful of getting the 1st team coach done and dusted too.

CP has confirmed, in the article about making a decision this week on a goalkeeper, that we are interested in a striker at another National League Club, which would fit the Jake Hyde rumour.

Another name I’ve had mentioned to me is Paul McCallum, but he signed a 3 year deal in 2020. Currently at Daggers, so would fit in with what CP said.

Mitch Brundle has just been released by the Daggers, he’s a very good player at this level and is adaptable to several positions. Can’t see him staying around very long without a club.

Now reading Jake Hyde player profile 20/21 it says Jake Hide 30from England Halifax town since 2020 Center forward Current club Halifax Town contract exspires jun 30th 2021 .

I don't doubt the sources but if we can't match Dagenham for wages we are in trouble, they're known to operate on a shoestring, unless theyve suddenly had a cash injection in the last few months?

Didn't they furlough a load of players last season to save cash? There's also the question of how much we wanted to offer a player if we didn't see them as vital

Are they being bankrolled by American investors and Tim Howard ex Everton the face of it?

One of the slightly more reliable twitter transfer pundits suggesting we are back in for Paul McCallum..

Can’t see it- surely fee plus as suggested not insignificant wages- there again it would be the NL version of a wow signing..
