A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I'm a little concerned about the goalkeeping situation and feel like this might have been a bit of a missed opportunity.

He doesn't want to leave the south east corner of the country. That's why he took a pay cut to join Gills from Lincoln - he and his family were desperate to be back down here. If wages can be settled on, we're in a good position to land him.

I suspect this is where we are at;
Very likely Akinde is Mr Eyebrows
Evans clearly wants him out and he is keen to leave
He absolutely wants to stay in the south east (strong family reasons so very unlikely to change)
He is out of our budget...
He wants to come here but the only way the financials will work is if he takes a pay cut, we stretch what we can pay AND Gillingham will need to contribute part of his wages for the remaining year of his contract (not unusual where a club needs a higher off the books to allow bring someone else in).
Gillingham wont want to do that but the EFL transfer deadline looms ever closer and Akinde continues to get minor niggling injuries and turn down alternative moves (pressure builds, Evans grows more and more angry)..
Meanwhile we maybe can get one or two off payroll to open up a bit of budge to move a bit closer...
So its a painful game that maybe has up to 2 weeks to run.
Danger is another equally local club comes in with an attractive offer
We can afford to play the longer game, no NL transfer window.
I guess ultimately Gillingham and Akinde could cancel contract by mutual consent after EFL deadline and he could move to NL (assume thats allowed so might delay a little longer?)

If Akinde is the man. Then it looks like it will hinge on whether Gills can get their premier league loanee in. Oh and of course the small matter of financing his rather large pay packet.

There is also the consideration of the transfer window, or lack of it.

I expect Brown is thinking, if it is Akinde and it will put us right on the budget limit, that it is a long season and he will need some wriggle room if we get injuries in other positions etc. Particularly as we look lacking in one or two key areas such as central defence, attacking midfield and goalkeeper.

On a more positive note, if we do better than expected and challenge for the playoffs, he may want to save something back for a final push in February/March time.

Yes and Gills will need to balance biting the bullet and paying up part of his contract or contributing to his wages, or risk waiting to see if a better offer comes in from somewhere he is willing to go to..and risk losing whoever they might have lined up and ending up keeping Akinde and paying all his wages. Complicated, lots of moving parts, & big danger of another local club senses an opportunity..

Am I the only one thinking that Akinde is a bit of a mercenary and I don't actually want him here after he did us over in January, and now is playing silly buggers again?
Do we know it's him playing silly buggers though?

As Ron proved with Holmes, he will pay the least amount possible. If Akinde is on the rumoured 3k a week, that's a huge drop in salary to come to us.

Plus, Gillingham are waiting to get their replacement. They won't let him go if they can't get him.

So many variables than just the player saying they want more money.

They funny thing is, we don't even know if it is him! ?

TBF it's not necessarily him- its all three parties involved. He has a family to feed and probably can't just say oh all right then Ii'll just accept a 50% paycut - darling cancel the holiday and look at downsizing....

I understand in January the thought of going from L1 to the bottom club in L2 who were goal shy and devoid of forwards or creativity, and played a lone striker, may have, in the end, failed to tempt. I'm surprised he seriously considered it in the first place.

Now maybe he and Evans have fallen out further, we play two up top and are more likely to be involved in a promotion scrap, and its entirely possible that (whatever a few may say on here) he finds PB a significant upgrade on MM or Evans...
