A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Maybe not, in fact there was only one player in the whole of the National League last season that reached or in fact scored more than 20 goals.
Partly because of another reality these days. Players get injured, lose some form, need to be rested to keep them fresh and therefore the idea that two forwards are likely to complete the large majority of games is I afraid probably mistaken. You need 3-4 forwards playing regularly and ideally not weakening the side when the do- so worrying about another decent forward stopping Dalby playing is missing this point I think. The lack of 20+ goalscorers is just the natural result of this reality.

Murphy would likely score 20+ if he played every game but he won’t. The load will be shared

Just another stat from the National League last season, of the top 24 strikers, only 6 played less than 35 games, and that’s from 42 matches.

That makes your stat interesting for sure. Given there are some decent strikers and high wages paid.
Scoring goals is becoming more rare every season and goalscorers are becoming extinct - of 24 teams in League 2 only 5 managed more than 1 goal yesterday.

I'd be lying if I said I weren't a little worried, even with two weeks to go before the first game. The squad for me is a huge concern and I think we're in danger of going in to the first game a little under cooked. It's also seemed to have gone very quite on the transfer front which is a worry.
The budget has been maxed out that's why we are trying to move on Akinola and ANG so we can singn another 3 players

Are you sure it’s the budget amd not senior players in the squad that’s been maxed out ( know what I’m saying )get one out to bring one in, because somebody’s taken it upon themselves to knock everyone again

It certainly has that whiff of a certain fruity softdrink again. Be it late accounts, or an unpaid football related debt somewhere. It has that all too fimiliar vibe about it right now

We know there are 3 or 4 players that PB wants to sign and he has made no secret of that. Is it just Ron playing hard ball and saying the budget isn't there?....Or are we operating under some form of "Restrictions" again shall we say... :Look:

Wa
Is that come back oxley all is forgiven ?
Watching Arnold last week and to a lesser extent Seadon, makes you realise that at this level Ox was a very adequate keeper. Hes gone so Im not dwelling on that, but I fear for the amount we will concede with either of these two. Low shots in Seadons case and the uncertainty and dithering of Arnold.
Not seen the other keeper on trial yet, maybe tomorrow night if he gets game time.

Why hasn't brown used the loan market yet? We are 2 maybe 3 players short before the season starts. Few weeks ago brown was set to sign 2 youngsters on loan but now it's gone quiet!

Probably because the EFL has only just started and the Prem hasn’t started yet so clubs haven’t decided completely all the players they require and who will be sent out on loan.

I guess those clubs who prepared to loan players out would prefer those players go to efl clubs. So we are probably playing the waiting game interms of which players we can potentially take on loan.

Only 12 days before the season starts and you would like Southend to have got a couple more signings in. If they don't/can't bring anyone else in we still need to get behind them when we kick off.

PB must know what his budget is...working within the budget is called 'management', and, is what 'managers', yes even football managers, are supposed to do!

Perhaps.......but then will RM recall, the signings of Ferdinand, Kightly, Kiernan and Josh Wright?
It would be interesting to know how much has been used up of the original budget given to PB. Is the hold up in respect of RH because of his injury profile, or, because to make the signing, PB needs money over and above what had he has been allocated.
Good point but I wouldn't lump Ferdinand in with those others. Anton was outstanding in his 1st season for us and I think everyone thought we should re-sign him at the time, I also think Anton would have continued his good form if he was managed better. 2 games a week were too much for him and he never had time for his body to recover. Kightly, Kiernan and Wright were all duds 100% but Ferdinand at least gave us 1 good season.

There is a real possibility that we are in fact under an embargo.

SO! with that in mind, where do you think this current side will finish?

For me, I believe we are no better than a relegation battle, but I firmly believe that we have the correct manager to keep us up.

It could be a long season ...

Point taken....at least partially. Ferdinand was superb in this first season with us but after that hardly played. After that first season we were essentially paying him money for no contribution. Injury, or, loss of form, and the body no longer allowing the player to effectively compete or contribute is always a danger with older players hence the need for caution about the length of contracts.
In some ways the RH situation might have more in common with what happened with Kightly. I hope we are not offering RH a three years!
It does seem quite likely PB is pleading with Ron to go over budget hence the remarks about having to be a good salesman....if the signing was within the agreed budget why would PB need to 'sell' anything to Ron?
And the lack of funds may well be a result of being unable to move on ANG and SimAk.
If this the case Ron is not being unreasonable. In my opinion at least.

Is this inside info or based on the lack of signings in the last 2 weeks and the RH contract issue?

If th players haven’t been paid then it will notice tomorrow in the performance I reckon as it is only a friendly.
