Question Train Ticket Information

As i can't be arsed to listen to a recorded message for the next 17 hours saying my call is important nor walk the 5 minutes to Southend East station to ask in person can anyone advise me the best way of buying tickets for the following journey ...

One way Southend to Liverpool Street leaving around 8am on a Friday
Tube (and return) to St Johns Wood NW8
One way Liverpool Street to Chelmsford around 6pm

I know if i ask for a Southend to Chelmsford i'd be expected to go via Shenfield but can i change the via Shenfield to St Johns Wood or maybe Liverpool Street and get the tube seperate

I'd advise return to Liverpool St with travelcard included. Then single from Shenfield to Chelmsford, all in all £26ish.

i know the timings screw us over a little bit for travelcards and the like but as we're off to Lords for the test match we really want to get there about ten to sample some of the atmoshere, there's 3 of us going so do you reckon we'll be able to get a group save ??
