Southend have only won one out of the last 14 at Torquay and the last win there was just before the turn of the millenium.

Man in charge of this tricky looking fixture is Andy Davies from Hampshire, who has only refereed nine
and two thirds games so far in this, his first season as a Football League referee.

His nine completed games have produced a slightly below average 25 yellows and he got his first red card out of his system a couple of weeks ago. He was also in charge of the abandoned match between Wycombe and Bristol Rovers when he was instructed to call off the match by the home club's safety officer (yes, the officer from the team losing 3-1 at home!) due to a bit of lightning. The pitch was a bit wet too.

He made a very reasonable job of his only previous Southend game, our 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon in the JPT when he cautioned Straker and Spicer and one of theirs.

Assisting will be Andrew Bennett from Hatherleigh in North Devon and Derek Eaton from Tewkesbury in Gloucester and Adam Hopkins, who works for the Devon FA and has a sportswear shop in Plymouth, will be wielding the numbers board.

Presumably that game was also abandoned?
