Tomorrow's referee, Stephen Martin from Stafford, has one of the lowest card counts in the League. In his second season, he hasn't shown a red card since his first ever match at this level last season and even his yellow card is sparingly used with 31 yellows from 19 matches this season.
He is the referee who had given the highest percentage of key decisions in his matches (penalties, yellow cards and red cards) in favour of the away team.
The second match of his League career was our 3-3 draw at Northampton (all goals in the second half), when Cresswell popped up with a last minute equaliser and he cautioned Ferdinand and Spicer and a couple of theirs.
The second Southend game he did was the home draw with Bradford last season, a caution apiece (ours was Timlin).
His third and most recent one was the 2-0 away win at Oxford this season. A yellow for Coker and one of theirs.
Assisting will be Andy Laver from Portsmouth and Keith Lawson from Grimsby (!!!), with Mark Derrien from Dorchester on the numbers board.
