It was preety bad but alot of people are still away on there hols and what with the little concert thingy in Chelmsford this weekend I am sure it will improve. " For the sake of all holy I hope so or "Ron will be in the ***** otherwise!

I actually dont think almost 5000 against Vale in League Two is bad at all! Or is it just me?!

A few will comeback from V and a few more from their holidays but, a fair few from today's crowd will not bother to return whilst the club/playing side is a shambles at best.

dont think gates will improve much unless we start to put a few good performances in and then the crowds will come back, as long as we are in the bottom half they will not get much better than today and that was with a good few from port vale.

A gate of 5000 may not be bad for Division 2 but is that enough to pay the bills? Ron will have to pay off Tilson at some stage and if he has to keep dipping into Sainsbury`s war chest are we heading for another crisis in a few months time. There will be some casual supporters today who will not return if things do not improve and falling gates will compound the problem.

Might of been more if the ticket office wasn't such a shambles - started queing up at 2.35, got inside the door at 3.10 - only ONE person at a station selling tickets! A number in the queue gave up and went home. Apparently they ran out of ticket paper! (maybe another supplier that hasn't been paid ?)

cant understand that, its as if they dont want fans at the game sometimes, this is fast becoming a very poorley run club and soon the fans that are staying away wont be back, shame that.

Ran out of ticket paper on the second game of the season with a smaller than average crowd ? Unbelievable ! The sooner Ron Martin steps aside for someone who can actually manage a business, the better.

Yep I can't believe they ran out of paper tickets. If you thing the crowd was only 5,000 and 3,500 of those are season ticket holders then we only had to issue les than 1,500 paper tickets for this match. Think the ticket office must have known they were short of tickets a few days ago as they were pushing the text ticket thing big time.

Actually thinking about it they had to sent 3,500 paper tickets out to season ticket holders for the Stockport match, this probably used up all the supplies.

Be down to 4,500 by november unless things pick up. Be interesting to hear from our 'leader' what our break even attendance figure is for this season?.

Lets hope there will be a 'Martin Out' chant ringing round Roots Hall one game soon, it's long overdue

But we're still doing better in terms of attendance compared to the last time we were in League Two. In our second home league game of that season, exactly six years to the day before the Port Vale game, there were 1,005 fewer people at the game - the attendance was only 3,941.

Though in our first season in the bottom division after relegation in 97/98 our first Home attendances were:

3,734 seeing us beat Shrewsbury 2-1.
4,241 seeing us lose 1-0 to Chester City
then 3,479 seeing us beat Rotherham Utd 3-0.

I think, as most have predicted, yes we will probably see a dip in attendances next league game, hovering around the 3.5-4.5 thousand mark until we begin to do well again.

Also, just noticed that the Spammers were at home today- checking the fixture list, there are 6 games where we're both at home on the same day this season. I thought that we had a fixture link with them, along with C*l U and the one that the Gills have with us. There has been more aggressive marketing of the premiership club since the gruesome two-some took over; for the floating footy follower, will the Premiership be more of a draw than a League 2 side.

I hope agent Grant actually manages to do what his predecessor failed to do and get them relegated, their squad has been punching above its weight for a while now.
