Today's Echo

Sandbach Shrimper

Life President⭐
Was anyone else really p*ssed off by today's letter in the Echo? If you haven't seen it, someone was moaning at Tilson because he's been too laid back about the last 3 games. He says he needs to lift the squad and re-kindle the determination. The funniest thing is he says that Tilly needs to turn things around or we'll be lying in 15th place at the new year. Well, I for one would've taken 15th place before the season.

What is it with some of our 'fans'? A few defeats and it's time to criticise the manager. Some of our fans need a reality check.

yeah i agree with you mate.

that bloke is probably a new fan (since 2004) who does he think he is?

anyone would have thought we we would be bottom!

i can understand you are annoyed with fans having a go at Tilson and the boys but there is no need to dismiss fans that have only supported sufc since 2004 as every new fan will bring money into the club! you should be grateful we are attracting new fans!

by the way was the letter really that bad (as i havent read it yet)??

thats one big assumption. infact id say that people who write into the echo are more likely to have supported the club for a long time in which case have greater affection due to their vidid memories of previous years of hurt. in any case, this shouldnt be related as all the 'poster' has done has stated his opinion whether he has been a supporter for years or not.

as it so happens, i read the article and i dont have an opinion on the matter. weve lost three games on the trot, so what. as the saying goes, its not a sprint but a marathon

i think the letter had a point, one thing that has bugged me of late is this '53 point' thing is the target even though we were top around a third of the season gone. Thats created a whole negativity as far as I am concerned . The comment would have been fair enough at the start of the season or even after a few games but not this far in the season. Our performances have come across in a very negative manner of late as though we only need to pick a few wins then jobs done....I bet Swansea & Huddersfield were not quite so negative.....saying that our current team is not good enough to go up or down just think he could have been more positive on what he came out with

I think Tilly is right to say that we need to get 53 points first then everything else is a bonus - he's just trying to be realistic. Now teams know a bit more about us, we're beginning to suffer a bit. If we're still in this position after the New Year period then maybe we can talk about going up, but not just yet.

*Cough*

Wonder what he'd do in Tilly's place, sack Freddie and bring back Pony and Jones?

the letter was a bit silly however I think it was from a long time fan rather than a tourist (who we should all encourage along to the hall by the way) It said Tilly was too laid back and implied he should start to throw the crockery. However did anyone see the bit in the Echo about Peter Goy setting up a mini reunion of ex players. Picture of the group included Malcolm Slater (you still see him walking his dog around Westcliff), Tony Bentley, Sandy Anderson (the Trust's guest of honour at the curry night next Tuesday) and then I got a bit stuck. Can anyone else identify the others?

I agree in that staying up was the target but by publicly stating "53" its just sending out the wrong signals , too negative, even if going up is unrealistic (which I agree on) we should have still acted more confident as they we were going for it. Dont think it gives the right signals to the players who since then have played as if that when only need 53 points then everyone will be satisfied (the way we are playing 53 points seems a long way off by the way!). Ad you say people now know more about us and mark Freddie out of the game, Gray & Lawson are not out and out goalscorers and Goater isnt going to bang them in as in his heyday sowere just not banging them in (hopefully they can prove me wrong and bang 5 in this afternoon) and our defence look as though they all have Parkinson's.

If this were Spain or Italy, he would have been sacked by now! So there's always something to thankful to about (that we don't play in those leagues)
