Try and consider our style of play, it's not rocket science. To get the best out of Sturrock we need to be playing the ball into his feet and let him try and link the play with Corr and our midfield players. So why is Sturrock getting all the abuse when all of our defence and midfield so often try and get him and Corr "in behind" and into a footrace with the opposition defence? They're never going to win them! With Corr we can hit him aeriially sometimes but we should also be looking to get the ball wide to Hall (in particular) and Commingues (hopefully not Soares) and get them to put in deliveries. By using our 2 front men in this way we become not only a half-decent footballing side but also one with a goal threat - hoofball football is not the way to go with this team and I feel some level of sympathy for Blair as our style of play doesn't suit him.

Blair Sturrock is a lot better than most of the players currently playing for our beloved club. He'll never score bundles of goals but he does what he is paid to do, so why he gets abuse from his own supporters is beyond me. Abuse the opposition not our own team, it might also help with their home confidence.

He also does a lot of the donkey work for other players , I saw him today tackling near our penalty area , like you say M M , never going to get 20 odd goals a season but I like his work rate and work ethic .

He had a shocker today, it happens. He was particularly good on Saturday and absoute rubbish today. That's not knocking him, that's just telling it how it is.

Sturock's an intelligent player and the link up part of his game is his obvious strong point and that's the use of having him in the team. Sometimes, though, his link up up play doesn't come off because he's not good enough to execute what he wants to do - that's why he's playing in league two!
If you really look at Sturrock's game, is he good aerially? Does he have pace to stretch teams? Does he come to life inside the penalty area? For me, all answers are no, but his link up play isn't bad at this level.
I'd question to logic in playing him at home where the onus is on us to attack. If Sturrock senior sees the hold up play of his boy and the ability to bring others into play then surely he's better suited to away games. I don't think this helps Blair in the popularity stakes during home games and at the minute I'd prefer Paterson ahead of Sturrock for Saturday's home game and I don't see why Blair can't come back into the side away from home.

the only way that **** is going to compliment our style of play is if he straps himselff up some 12 foot set of stilts and puts a blind fold on and march were ever he wants, or or or even better turn himslef into a seagull becuase that was clearly the only way forward today, Anthonet gr\nt you should be ashamed of yourself for **** sake we know what you lot are like!!!!! but dont do it in front of everyone kill it cook it eat it!

I don't agree with abusing any Southend player on the pitch. Blair is a tidy player who can link play well and perhaps should be considered in a midfield role. What he is not is a striker and that frustrates many people, myself included. His shots and headers at goal are weak, he has no pace and spends much of his time with his back to goal. People want a striker to be a threat with the ability to take on the defence and look dangerous. His dad managed to prise him away from Truro City for this season - to be honest I think Truro City was his level as a striker.

Now that is funny....:hilarious:

OBD forgot to add the word "Ryman"....

HAHA!

Blair is a very intelligent player, he offers a lot, his only downfall is that he doesn't have much confidence in front of goal. Some people will never appreciate Blair's play. That's probably because they are old fashioned and like their forwards to score goals :winking:

Obviously we all know Blair isn't there to score goals, he is there to link the play and that's what he does! Very well !

I see Blair Sturrock is just 3 games short of the most ever starts he has had in any of his previous 10 seasons in English football. His dad believed in him so much at Plymouth he started 9 league matches in 3 years (came on a Sub 54 times though!).

To be fair I don't think he has done too badly this season. But this is the sort of standard of player we will have to get used to for now.

What a load of fuss over a journeyman striker who hardly ever scores and has very few assists to his name (one this season so far!) OK, he gives 100% and doesn't deserve to be booed off the field, but some people strangely seem to actually rate this guy! In just the past few seasons I can think of at least a dozen Blues strikers who are way superior to this bloke! Eastwood, Barnard, Goater, Gray, Robinson, Clarke, Bradbury, Constantine, Paynter, Hooper, McDonald, Vernon etc. etc. Even to get out of this dire division you need far, far better forwards than Blair Sturrock!!

Sturrock is doing ok and I honestly think he has been one of the better players this season, the side definately plays better with him holding and linking play(similar style to Ian Benjamin.Don't believe he would get the stick if he wasn't PS son.As for comparing him with a number of players who were in higher divisions is not a fair comparison seeing were now in the bargain basement division

He does a reasonable job in linking play, he runs his socks off may not be the striker to get you 15 or more goals a season but he does work for the team, it is a shame some supporters do not work for the team and support allof them instead of knocking them. If he wwas notplaying who else do we have he is the best of an average bunch. Lets get off his back show him some gratitude and try and boost his confidence. We do better away from home because fans dont get on their backs away from home it is as simple as that!!

The fact that people boo Sturrock when Soares is 10 times worse shows that some of the crowd prefer to target players rather than voice their opinions on the players that are actually performing poorly, what's the point in Sturrock trying if the crowd will hate him whatever? He holds the ball up so others can get forward, he is not a striker, he can make good passes, just because they occasionally go away from goal doesn't make them bad passes, people don't want long ball football but then complain when Sturrock tries to open space by playing the ball back. Yes he plays badly occasionally (like Monday) but it doesn't deserve booing

Blair Sturrock in my opinion apart from Granty is the best player we have this season he holds the ball up well and works hard for the team is it because he his the managers son you ******s on here are always on his back? No wonder we cant win at home, you ******s no who you are just stay away.

This is very true.
