To all the Get Knight In brigade

He is a **** but such a waste of talent.

A fully focused, fit and scoring Knight I would love to see here..

But it remains to be seen If that character will appear again..

Maybe a trial wouldnt be a bad idea?..

There you go, a perfect example of why we shouldn't be signing somebody like this for Southend United!  Arrogant little pr1ck!
Well i'd be inclined to give him a chance Tilly is a good judge of charachter and should we be that club thats interested we should welcome him,as we did Collymore....If i recollect he fell out of favour at most clubs he was at before southend and he became a legend, Theres also the Ricketts syndrome... he never lived up to his promises and looked what happened ....gone....so i reckon a player with something to prove would be good for us...

Its not his personality that I wouldn't want here, its his ability. You can mock the likes of Harrold, Paynter & Bradbury's goalscoring records but none of them are primarily in the team to score goals. Knight is supposedly a goalscorer yet his goalscoring record at this level (with Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton and now Barnsley) is comparable with theirs.

I am really struggling to to see in that article what you think makes him arrogant??

All he has said is that he has done everything Jackett has asked of him but yet he is being cast aside.

Now that may not be true, but there is certainly nothing in that article that would make me think he was either arrogant or a trouble maker.

Think its a tad harsh to jump on the 'Anti Knight' bandwaggon without knowing the full story.

For what its worth, I think he is a good player and a pretty sharp striker. Is he better than what we have?... Yes, probably, certainly Harrold, Hooper and Bradbury, too early to say about Paynter. When I say 'better', I mean would he give us a more dangerous strike force with a genuine threat of goals, and I think definitely.

a) Collymore hadn't fallen out of favour with anyone. He signed for us because Palace kept playing him on the wing and we promised to play him in the middle.
b) Maybe Tilly, who you agree is a good judge of character, has judged his character to not be worth a punt?

He's scored something like* 13 league goals in 85 games at this level, several of which were penalties.

I don't think he'd offer much of a goalscoring presence and I'm not sure what he'd offer in terms of a partner for Eastwood either.

I think you're right about the article though. I don't think he's said too much wrong there.

*I checked about six weeks ago when he went to Barnsley but can't remember the exact figure now.

I think the key question you have to ask yourself about Leon Knight is why has he had so many clubs in such a short space of time? It is 7 in six years now. His services have not been dispensed with on each occasion due to a lack of ability. Read into it what you will

He is a goal scorer, but does look like a league one level player. If he had proven he could score for Barnsley Id still be interested, but then he would have signed for them anyway.

Sorry my mistake as i thought Colly was languishing in the reserves and not getting a game.........As for tilly not showing interest ...my initial thought was that Leon states other clubs are showing interest...thought it might be tilly.....

Errrrrh sorry .... have I missed something. If these three were not brought as strikers and so to score goals ... what are they in the side for? I can only imagine that you are implying that they are here to feed Freddy and if so, no wonder we are in the Sh*t we're in if we expect one guy to be our only main goal scorer. Please elaberate.

I think what he means are these are Goater type players rather than 20+ goals a season men. They are here to hold the ball up and create space for Freddy. However, i do agree we need someone in this Goater mold that can get 10/15 goals a season. I doubt knight is this player.

More specifically we could do with a Goater-style player not only in a goalscoring support role sense but someone who has bags of experience and uses that to good effect when it comes to his team-mates on the pitch. Freddy has missed the Goat this season no doubt about it and when you're in a massive relegation dogfight someone like him would be fantastic for the team. Trouble is where do you find someone like that? Only player I could think of would be Sheringham and we'd have no chance of getting him.

After watching the DVD of last season was amazed to see just how many goals the goat created for Freddy. Thats what we miss lol

They're here to help Eastwood by holding the ball up and creating space for him to play in. Now you can debate whether thats the way we should have been playing (it IS in my opinion), but clearly those three players were not brought here on the back of their goalscoring records.

Clearly someone like Leon Knight would be in the team to score goals rather than to bring others into the game.

Just bring Knight in. Quite frankly when Freddy isn't playing we have no pace in attack whatsoever...and not many goalscorers either!! For me Knight is a much better player than both Harrold and Paynter, its not fair to say he's better than Bradbury because they are two different players altogether. If Freddy goes he would be no-where near as effective but he might fill the gap a little bit.

I agree on a six-month contract, if he doesn't do it but his attitude is OK keep him on if we go down as his League One record is excellent. If he's a tw9t then just cancel the contract, paid him off and accept its a risk.
