Expected to be out for 5 to 6 weeks according to CP. Really hard lines for him. I know when I spoke to him at the end of last season he was desperate to get back fit and playing again during pre season.

Looks like one of our loanees is going to have to be a central midfield player, not only for the present injuries to Timlin and Wordsworth but for the fact that both seem so injury prone. I trust PB is already on the case.

Timlin facing six weeks out with hamstring injury

SOUTHEND United midfielder Michael Timlin is set to miss the start of the League One season with a hamstring injury.

Has Timlin ever had a fit pre-season? Looks like we'll have to get a central midfielder in on loan. Could be an opening for Bridge too.

Bridge is a clone of Adam Lallana , so although playing wide is an option , have him playing attacking centrally is IMHO his best position to cause chaos to opponents defences.

BENCH : RANGER (?) , BRIDGE, BILLY EDGE(?) , WHITE , O'NEILL , SMITH , MURRAY (?) , WILLIAMS , SOKOLIK (?)

so, without Timlin & Wordsworth for a few weeks , the squad is starting to look very light weight, especially with 4 of the above still only trialists. I wonder if PB will try Thommo deep midfield tomorrow night .... All of a sudden our central midfield is in need of beefing up.

I can fully understand the injury to Timlin. These things happen for whatever reason. What I cannot understand is the delay in getting Wordsworth's hamstring dealt with much earlier. It appeared obvious to us on the outside that treatment, from the April injury until now, was not working. So why leave the solution to the problem only days from the start of the season?

Yes, that's roughly what I understood. Clubs with small squads like ours are screwed by not being able to bring in short term loans, needed due to unexpected injuries.

We're not screwed but it does require all clubs our size to put a lot of thought into how they're building their squad each season so that they have enough cover in all positions when the transfer window closes. There's probably a decent argument now for signing squad players as late as possible so that you know where to prioritise cover taking into account current injuries and one or two bigger signings like Cox taking a chunk out of the budget.

Real shame for Timlin. I thought he had a good opportunity to get back established as one of our key players this season. This is a blow to him and the Club.

Some good news is that 3 of our local first team opponents defenders have all collected knee injuries. Morris, Garmston ( left back )and Oshilaja. Wagstaff another good recruit is out for 6 weeks as well with a hamstring, so wont be playing against us. Edinburgh is on the hunt for defensive recruits, already knowing he needed another centre half. " We also need another right and left back and are moving along , but dont want to rush it", but they plan to get them in before the season starts.
Oshilaja may make it though. Interesting also that Edinburgh is in the market for another STRIKER. He already has 4 senior strikers and wants another to boost options before the new campaign. He said " That end is where you win matches and you can never get enough strikers" I like the latter thought and comparison in attitude?

Hamstrings going pre-season are very common and is happening across our league and others, Wagstaff, Gills new signing , same thing 6 weeks out. At one point last season Phil also intimated a connection with the emotional side, although it seems strange. More likely its just getting used to all that extra training, stretching and running.
Feel very sorry for Tims, the bloke must be due some good luck surely. I also dont quite understand why Wordsworth is still struggling on with it 4 months later, if 6 weeks is the going repair rate , any medical experts or past sufferers understand this better?
