Tilson's greatest acheivement?

shrimperton

Manager
Forget the promotion to league 1 and the CCC, forget that when he first took the job and kept us in league 2, forget the games in the LDV and Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs.

IMO, considering everything that Tilson has faced this season and embargos, sacking of his assistant, players not being payed, the club on the brink of being wound up, IF Tilson keeps this club clear of relegation this season it will be IMO his greatest achievement in his managerial history and should be managing england in south africa this year, i would rather have no one else in charge for our remaining games than Steve Tilson......

UP THE BLUES!!!!!!

hahahaha...
I think if he had to do this without barnard for a whole season then yes. but otherwise i disagree.

At the start of the season we were playoff hopefuls in many people's eyes.

i would say getting upto the championship.

however its been a very difficult job this season for tilly and hopefully it ends in a good way.

I said this in November when he'd celebrated 6 years as a manager. I stick by it.

"fantastic achievement. He started by saving us from the conference probably his biggest success, then the promotions, cups, championship Man U etc etc. However Ii think his greatest achievement may well be this season if he keeps us up with all the off field problems."

Given what the poor ******* (Tilly) has had to face this year I think it would be right up there personally. probably getting us into league one was tougher as it meant winnning constantly where as getting out now only really requires us to get above tranmere for example....

When I've spoken to him recently, he's openly admitted that this would be his greatest achievement - as you have to weigh in with all the off the field stuff as well...personally I think survival is often under-rated - it might not be trophies or cup finals - but judging by the atmosphere last night, the prospect of surviving is just as exciting as promotion - BECAUSE of the situation we find ourselves in...

Difficult to say what his biggest achievement has been as the circumstances have changed all the time. For me, all it proves is that Tilson has consistently achieved at this club no matter what has come his way with just the one major blemish on his record.

On the one hand, saving us from relegation to the Conference when we looked dead and buried, two magnificent cup runs to take us to the Millenium Staidum, two promotions including a victorious visit to Cardiff and a season as League 1 Champions, tactical victories against Manchester United, Chelsea (and a fair showing against Spurs) plus various other memorable victories along the way.

On the other hand, an ultimately unsuccessful season in the Championship where we might have been punching above our weight at the time anyway.

Even Tilson's poor signings have been countered by his great ones, and his failure to draw the best from certain individuals (ie: Hooper) countered by his ability to get the best out of others (ie: Eastwood).

I genuinely cannot see how we could have had a better manager than we have right now yet some people have still called for change. The only thing that's changed over time has been the playing staff and the resources Steve has had to work with.

I must have missed it when we beat Chelsea! :p

Moral victory, obviously! :)

...although I'd still claim it as a tactical victory even if we only got the draw in the first tie, given our respective spending capabilities.

I still see Revell planting that header in the top corner even now!

Considering the crap that Ron Martin has put Tilly through this season I think it would be Tilly's greatest achievement to keep us up this season.

I don't think its a big secret that there isn't much love loss between Tilly and Martin right now and full marks to Tilly for sticking with Southend and not walking out on us which must have crosed his mind a good few times this season.

Wasn't a reason given at Monday's Q&A for firing Brush to enable Tilly to become an even better manager? The firing of Tilly's very close right hand man with whom he has shared so much success was done as an attempt to help Tilly to thrive. I'm sure Tilly appreciates taking such tough decisions to help him. So you must be wrong.

Greatest achievement?..................................How about refraining from given that numpty Bailey a good slapping!
