Tilson improving in transfer market?

So, now the dust has settled and the new lads have had a chance to bed in, it seems like Tilly really has managed to bring in players who have improved us and will help consolidate our position in the play-offs. Many were quick to squeal about the ineffectiveness of Mulgrew and Robson-Kanu in particular, but now seem to accept they are, in fact, a benefit to the team.

Tilly has had some shockers in the transfer market, as many managers do, but he has recently shown a keen eye and I'm very encouraged. He seems to be learning and growing as a manager all the time which bodes very well for us indeed.

One springs to mind.. matt harrold!

so who wants to list every loan and transfer we have made since he took charge? In chronological order?

That way we can really have a look. I think your general point is valid though, and it's understandable that as a very young manager both his fairly limited knowledge, and the very high pressure has meant he has made a couple of mistakes in the transfer market. however i think the recent batch of both permanent signings and loanees have great potential and have already had a great impact

I did on this thread back in the summer, when it was suggested that Tilly & Brush did not have any contacts in the game.

Not quite in chronological order, and you can add all the subsequent permanent and loan signings accordingly.

I hope this also nails the ludicrous assertion that we do not sign players from local Premiership clubs.

In the interest in trying to nail this Tilly has no cantacts argument, let me remind you of the following signings that Tilly & Brush have made while in charge at Southend. Hopefully I've not forgotten anyone, apologies if I have.

Mark Bentley - Dagenham
Lawrie Dudfield - Northampton
Nicky Nicolau - Arsenal - Loan/Permanent
Carl Pettefer - Portsmouth - Loan/Permanent
Darren Blewitt - West Ham - Loan
Spencer Prior - Cardiff
Andy Edwards - Rushden
Wayne Gray - MK Franchise
Bart Griemink - Swindon?
Freddy Eastwood - Grays - Loan/Permanent
Alan McCormack - Preston - 2 Loans/Permanent
Shaun Goater - Reading
Mitchell Cole - Grays
Efe Sodje - Yeovil
Lee Bradbury - Oxford
Luke Guttridge - Cambridge
Steve Collis - Yeovil
Simon Francis - Sheffield United
Richie Foran - Motherwell
Steve Hammell - Mptherwell
Billy Paynter - Hull
Matt Harrold - Yeovil
Gary Hooper - Grays
Michael Ricketts - Leeds
Peter Clarke - Blackpool
Arnau Riera - Sunderland - Loan
Gerard Nash - Ipswich - Loan
Lloyd Sam - Charlton - Loan
Tommy Black - Palace
Jamal Campbell-Ryce - Rotherham
Garry Richards - Colchester
Zoltan Liptak - Hungary
Charlie MacDonald - Gravesend
Nick Bailey - Barnet
Kerrea Gilbert - Arsenal - Loan

By my estimation, since then we've signed:

Damien Scannell - Eastleigh
Lee Barnard - Spurs
Alex Revell - Brighton
Charlie Mulgrew - Wolves - Loan
Anthony Grant - Chelsea - Loan
Hal Robson-Kanu - Reading - Loan
James Walker - Charlton - Loan

well, i totally agree with cliff pavillion..
it may be a slight worry that a few of these are on loan, but overall it's been great that the people that we've brought in have actually been used in the starting line ups at the moment.
well dont tilly and co.

Why do some people think that all the signings are just down to Tilson? There are scouts who look at players and then Ron Martin has to okay the transfer fee and the wages.

The credit and the blame is not just down to Tilson there are plenty of other people involved as well in all signings.

Incredible really to think that we are still in promotion contention in spite of losing our strikeforce in January with no money for them.

What about Matt Driver? Didn't he arrive during Tilly's time?

Yes he was. We signed him at the same time as we signed Alan McCormack for the first time. I think.

What the first time or second. Because I remember Darren Blewitt on loan about the same time as McCormack the first time

Nash was signed about the time Sodje broke his leg i believe. Blewitt arrived when McCormack signed on loan the first time around.
