Tilson Comment

"If clubs like that are after Dean though it seems unlikely we would be able to afford him."

Is that not just a defeatist attitude!? surly its worth attempting to sign him if we are way of the mark so be it but you cant let somebody pass because we 'assume' we cant afford him!

more realistic than defeatist?

Not really - it's not worth busting our bank balance to gain promotion or we'll end up in a similar pickle to LooTown.

If Tilson was really keen on him, he'd have made an effort to sign him as soon as he rejected Leeds anyway.

There's also a little psychology possibly here.

By saying this, Tilly is saying "Well, we would want to sign him but probably can't afford him".

If Morgan or his agent read that, they know that if the price and/or wages are more realistic then we may be interested.

It puts the onus on the player rather than making him feel as though we definitely want him so will pay more to get him. We are effectively saying that we'll have him if he wants to come here enough.

Stop looking for the negatives all the time Scott. There may be other forces at work here.

not looking for the negatives really, you may be right he mite have a plan behind that but to us as supporters it lacks of forward planning but hey fingers crossed!

In what way to Tilly's comments indicate a lack of forward planning?

I think Tilly's comment is very fair, and something most of us would have said ourselves, he is just being honest, no need to read more into his comment than there is

This is far more likely than him being defeatist. It could even be Tilly's way of saying "thanks but no thanks."

with the transfer window open there is obviously loads of game playing going on with agents tryng to max up their clients wages etc. and the media being used to leverage deals -

i felt sorry for Morgan as he seemed desperate to get to Leeds (big crowds big money) but his agent possibley over did the money ask and Bates and co
know their way around too well to be mugged by a Lge 1 players agent.

Leons deal with SUFC was probabley sabotaged by his agent who suddenly felt he could do better for Leon and himself by hawking him around in the Jan window especially as he has now got goals under his belt.

the agents view is probabley that if nothing better turns up he can still get a deal at either SUFC or similar sized club nearer the close of the window -

its all bollox as far as i am concerned - its obvious that most players are completely in their agents pockets and the ten per centers don't care about the players career at all - just about the size of their invoice -

and the market place obviously suits the big clubs with the big budgets -

never mind perhaps there will be a few unsold players remaining witha couple of days to go and Tilly and co can snatch a bargain - although I would almost rather stick with what we've got (yep I know their limitations but at least they are young ) than see a whole load of cash being spent on an ordinary been round the block three times pro -

Thread of the day... very well put...

Depends on how much Tilly has to spend. Morgan was going to cost Leeds only £30K in a transfer fee, but what was he asking in wages?

If Morgan is asking £5K a week in wages, then that & his fee would wipe out the Clarke or Fallon fee, probably leaving him little to spend on other players.

I think Tilly has the choice of one star player or two or three average ones!! He's already done that a few times!! That said a few of his start players haven't been all that.

I say get a Leon Clarke back here that wants to play for us & get Foran back & playing upfront where he prefers & scores goals.

If we can get Leon back here on loan and get his **** in gear and get in a Fallon type player as strikers i think we'll be fairly sorted. I'd like a nice big, experienced centre back here though preferably.

Oh and about Scannell:

I think we've got a bargain. £5,000 is nothing for a player of his quality and you can tell he's got something. He's worked hard and impressed in training. He's got into the box, he's got pace and he will play a big part in this clubs future.

That was Tilly in last weeks non-league paper.

Shame Tilson doesn't see Foran as a striker at all then and therefore that is why he's never played him for an extended run in that position!

The goals he scored for Motherwell in the SPL were from midfield (and a fair few were actually penalties)!

Not exactly setting the L2 goalscoring charts alight is he?
