Tilson and Brush Appreciation Thread

bazza192

Youth Team
I would just like to say what a fantastic job Tilson and Brush are doing and have done since they took charge. Most managers would have jumped ship ages ago with No Money, No Players and Ron the Con for a chairman but its shows great loyalty that you are still here.

2 LDV final appreances, 1 Champions trophy, 1 Playoff Trophy, Playing Chelsea Tottenham and Man United (beating the Latter) has been a tremendous journey and long may it continue...

Would a better management team get any more out of the players? Probably not (No repeat of the gloomy days of Newman and Wignell)

Looking forward to 2010 being a True Blue's Supporter.

To be honest this thread should be Tilly, Brush and Ron as it was Ron that gave them an extended contract when other chairman would of sacked them.

Combined they make a great team, and I hope all 3 are here for years to come!!!

I'm not sure I buy this most managers would have jumped ship long ago, as I don't see too many people volunterring to be unemployed.

However the premise of the thread is right and we have an excellent management team long may that continue.

No money, paper-thin squad. They have done excellent!

They've had success in every season they've managed us:

2003/04 - Took over when we were in the relegation zone of League Two, kept us up comfortably and took us to the LDV final against all odds

2004/05 - Another LDV final, plus promotion via the play offs from League Two despite finishing nowhere near the play offs in all our previous seasons since relegation in 1998

2005/06 - Record breaking sequence of 8 consecutive victories, plus promotion to the Championship finishing top of the table

2006/07 - Beating a strong Manchester United team in the Carling Cup, then narrowly losing to a late offside goal against Tottenham in the Quarter Finals (our first ever Quarter Final appearance in a major cup competition). As most pundits predicted we were relegated from the Championship, however we enjoyed some memorable victories against Stoke, Birmingham, Sunderland, Burnley, QPR, Cardiff, Southampton, West Brom, Preston and Ipswich - four of these teams are now Premiership sides.

2007/08 - Achieving a play off place, despite losing our best player before the season starts. We end up losing in the play offs to a very strong Doncaster side.

2008/09 - An incredible draw is achieved at Stamford Bridge against a strong Chelsea side, then running them close in the replay until the last 20 minutes. In the league, a creditable 8th position is secured despite losing some of our best players before the season started.

2009/10 - Despite extreme off the field difficulties such as a transfer embargo and late payments to players, the team are 13th which is a good achievement in these circumstances.

I love the pair of them and I also hate the pair of them but I still can't live without them - though It is fair to say that in real terms we have made no progression since 2007/08 BUT flip side we have not got backwards that much

After hearing the Chief Sheepshagger's 'dating Nobby' quote the other day, it got me thinking about where we are in our relationship with Tilly & Brush.

We were at a real low point when we started to date Tilly in 2003, and after a short courtship took the plunge and got hitched. The next few years were a real honeymoon period, taking us to some glamourous locations, it was goodtimes all round, sure there were problems - Tilly always took too long to change, but we could ignore them as everythiong was going well. Then life intervened, we lost our job at 'The Championship' and like so many found we'd overstretched ourselves, just as we were trying to move to a new home where we could grow as a family. Frustration set in, money was tight, we didn't go out to such glamourous places it was tough to adjust. But when we look around us and see where some of our old colleagues are now, like Cambridge & Oxford, we realise just how lucky we are, at all the other relationships that seem to change week to week, we how much better off we are and that we'll get through the tough times and emerge stronger.
