SOUTHEND United manager Steve Tilson has told his team to focus on just their football ahead of tonight’s local derby with Leyton Orient.
The Shrimpers have endured a difficult week in the build up to the game, with two players leaving an already small squad on loan.
Further details of the club’s financial position have also been revealed.
But Tilson wants no distractions at Roots Hall this evening.
“We’ve all had a meeting together and, although it will be hard, we have to focus on our football and the game tonight,” said the Blues boss.
“We can’t control whatever goes on behind the scenes and there is no mistaking it has been a tough week.
“Hopefully we can put all that behind us though and produce a good performance in what is always a big game.”
Blues have drawn four and lost one of their five games so far this season but their performances have been good.
And Tilson now wants them to be rewarded with a win against the O’s “I’m sure it will be a good game and hopefully the fans will get right behind us,” said the 43-year-old.
“Matches with us and Orient are normally quite entertaining and there’s always a good atmosphere so we are looking forward to it.”
Tilson has limited options for the game though and will not be able to name the full allocation of seven substitutes.
But that does not concern the Seasiders chief and he will battle on with the players he does have available.
“I have 16 to pick from and we’re not hiding that,” he said.
“It’s not ideal but it doesn’t bother me that we won’t have seven subs because I feel that change was pathetic anyway.
“If you can’t pick three from five then you are doing something wrong but we certainly don’t want to be picking up any injuries.”
The match will also be the first since Alex Revell’s departure on loan to Swindon Town.
And Tilson revealed the striker’s switch had been necessary to enable him to bring other players in.
“Things are tight financially, like they are at other clubs, and we have to get some people out to get others in,” he confirmed.
“We circulated a few names and Revs certainly wasn’t at the top of the list but Swindon came in for him and he ended up going there on loan.”
>THE draw for the second round of the JPT Trophy, which includes Southend United, will be made on Soccer AM tomorrow morning
