Tilly on BBC Essex

Shrimpador

First XI
Was listening to the radio on the way back from the game yesterday and I'm sure Tilly said he was still looking for a couple more additions - then he felt we could really challenge for promotion.

The interviewer didn't really pick up on it so I may have mis-heard.

But is Tilly thinking of dipping into the loan market again? I'm not too sure what additions I'd make to the squad now....we've got a good-sized squad with cover for every position - I think we need to let it settle now and find the best XI.

Anyone else hear the interview?

I am sure he will always be on the look out. That should go without saying. If he wasnt he could miss out on someone who was ideal for us and at the right price.

Dont think we should read too much into his interviews. Its not exactly his strong point.

Suffice to say I do believe he said that he was on the look out but then who isnt.

Agree that we should always be looking, but I can't see where a new player would fit in. Maybe a winger to replace JCR? But we have plenty of midfield cover. Centre-half maybe too but can't see him dropping Clarke, Barrett or Richards. Surely not another striker either given his faith in Harrold and the options we have now.

Good to know that Tilly is still on the look out for players but I agree that it is now vitally important to find the best starting XI. Yesterday, I thought there were still times that the defence looked ill at ease and a better team might have made us pay. (Richards looked immense but Clarke was shaky at times. Gilbert is too hot and cold for my liking at the moment and I feel that Francis might be the stronger option just now). Midfield looks very strong as I guess we knew would be the case and, finally, the attack looks menacing. Overall, I think the shape of the team is beginning to emerge and the players' greater awareness of what they have to do resulted in a much more disciplined performance and one in which we bossed the game.

Tilly has taken a lot of flack recently on SZ- it is time to recognise the efforts he makes to develop our play. For me the greatest pleasure yesterday was seeing us keep the ball on the deck and play through the opposition. Well done Tilly for keeping your focus on playing football to get results.

only addition i might think of making is a winger.. perhaps a youngster as we are pretty screwed if we get a few injuries. however i hope tilly really works on the players we have because i would argue our squad is better than it was last time in league 1 and so if we have finally stopped the rot, we should be gunning for a move to the top of the table

i wasnt there yesterday and whilst it's great that we do play good footie on the deck, i'm glad he has finally realised that just cos we like it on the deck doesnt mean that other teams will play like it. the addition of Richards and hopefully Leon Clarke will mean that we can defend most things arially and also hoof it up to a big target where it will usually stick. it doesn't mean that we have changed much tactically but i think it shows that tilly has learnt from his mistakes
