Tie #14: Halloween (Shrimper) v Empire Records (Drastic S)

Scares or choons?

I fully expect to lose this. (positive start DS)

I can see why most people will vote for Halloween, it's a horror classic. (wow, keep up the good work)

But this is a battle of the AVERAGE films. And Halloween is far from average.

Empire Records IS average. It's not a brilliant comedy. Or a great rom-com. Or a mainstream teen flick. It's cast isn't stellar. It's director is not acclaimed. It has no hidden message or depth. But I love it. For those who haven't seen it, it set in a Delaware record store, threatened with a buy-out by a record chain, and it's pretty funny.

...and it has a kick-*** soundtrack.

That awesome soundtrack?

Edwin Collins / Evan Dando / The The / Dire Straits / Throwing Muses / AC/DC / Gwar / The Buggles / Flying Lizards / Daniel Johnston

and of course not forgetting...

Eddie: This music is the glue of the world, Mark. It's what holds it all together. Without this, life would be meaningless.

[Joe is talking to the police about Warren]
Joe: [to Warren] How old are you?
Warren: Old enough to kick your butt through your skull and splatter your brains on the wall.
Joe: [to the cops on the phone] Yeah, he's a juvenile.

Joe: Where's the money, Lucas?
Lucas: Joe, the money is gone.
Joe: I know it's GONE, where's it gone to?
Lucas: Atlantic City.
Joe: Atlantic City. ...Is it coming back from Atlantic City?
Lucas: I... I don't think so.
Joe: What's it doing in Atlantic City?
Lucas: Recirculating.
Joe: Recirculating?
Lucas: Yeah.
Joe: Lucas, listen to me. I told Mitchell Beck that you forgot to deposit the money. I told Mitchell that the money was still here.
Lucas: Joe, that's not true. It's in Atlantic City... I swear!
Joe: Shut up, sit down, and don't you move.
Lucas: [sitting down] It could be in other cities by now...

I'm sorry DS, I couldn't get into Empire when I tried to watch it. Halloween however is one of the best horror's there is. Sorry mate :'(
