Thoughts on players today

Flahavan - same old really , 3 brill saves but was still rooted to his line to much

Hunt- very average

Clarke - done ok but Bellamy's pace and movement caused him a lot of trouble and also felt he got caught on his heals for the 1st goal.

Barrett- some great touches and brought the ball out of defence well and also read the game well, still needs to improve though.

Hammell- he was up against Lunjberg who i thought was a class above any player on the pitch today, so understandable a day to forget especially the pass back.

Bailey - hmm , not sure as the first gane i have seen of him, but looked very much out of his depth.

Maher- very tidyed with the ball at his feet and rarely panicked , was the pick of our players in the first half although could do a lot more off the ball.

Black - showed some great touches and intelligently used the ball , would like to see him 100% fit as will be a great assest .

Gower- in and out of the game , got muscled off the ball to easily and not the pace to beat the full back

Hooper- i know it's harsh but can't think of a plus to his game at the moment certantly on todays performance .

Harrold - didn't get any change out of West ham's Centre half's.

macca - MOM different team when he is in it , more pace to the team , more bite and more beleif

Moussa- tidy but needs to bulk up and get nasty , this is english football

Mcdonald- can see potential , linked up well , but was out of his depth.

Wilson- average

Collis - good handling but not tested .

Paynter- liked the look of him and mcdonald , would start them 2 at the start of season.

macca has the abaility to completely change a game. he has done it many times for us and alredi this pre-season. especially against daggers. he come on and ruled the game. what a signing and what a player.

From a strikers' perspective just one word: ''Fredbare'',very few shots, new striker required urgently, all but #Charlie Mac were disappointing.

I got back from a two week holiday last night so forgive me for asking but is Che still 'pondering' his contract offer and did Hooper sign?

Tommy Black - wow. what a quality player. skillful, clever, quick and looked commited.

macca and maher - superb as usual!

is it just me or is our midfield of balck, maher, macc and gower looking mouthwateringly good for league 1???!

...now just need a striker to match such midfield talent

No,a defender you mean!

Have to bear in mind that they were up against Premiership defenders of course.

I thought Hooper didnt do anything, Harrold was poor and Paynter was managing to lay the ball off well, without really doing anything threatening.

Macdonald didnt really get much change from the defenders but the runs he was making were really good and if he does that against League One defences will get far more joy.

From what Ive read people seem to like this midfield which leaves last season arguably best player - JCR out of the team. Anyone think he could play up front?

Anyone think he could play up front?

Other than pace cant see what he would offer.

Far too small and isnt a natural goalscorer.

He is far more suited to the wing and was really starting to become the player I thought he would be, now I think Black may nudge ahead of him if todays performance was anything to judge him by...

Yeah good sugestion, with Black wide right and JCR up front with Harry.I really think that if he runs at a deffence from a cental position he could cause them no end of problems....could even be the new Richard Cadette.

Especially as most centre backs in this division will be of the lumbering giant variety.
I dont think his size would be a problem, and maybe he has never shown a sa profilic scorer cos hes always out on the wing.

Didn't he score a couple of crackers last season? shows when he shoots he knows what to do.

maybe not as an instant forward, but certainly as a supersub. Pace, skill, and can shoot. I'm not saying he'll become the next Henry, but alongside a larger forward it could be an interesting option

Personally, I don't think he could do a job up front but Tilly's squads have been most successful when there's been real competition for places. Playing any two from Black, Gower and JCR with one to come off the bench later on is a mouth-watering prospect! But not only does it give us something to change a game, it also means each player has to give his all just to stay in the team. With Kev, Macca, Moussa (and hopefully Bailey) competing for the middle slots, our midfield looks awesome.

Now if we could only find that elusive goal-scorer...

also thought clarke did brilliant along with black. looked really good did. did many one two's and was always making runs.

but certain players looked very nervous.

I thought JCR played up front in his loan couple of loan spells at Orient. Jonny Stokes is this correct?

It could be a very good option away from home with a sort of 4-4-1-1 formation?

If our defense and attack was as good as our midfield I would be lumping the house on us to go up this season.

Its all very well having a good bench to change a game if you give the players on it a chance.!!.One of Tillys big problems (IMHO) is that he leaves his subs soooooooo frustratingly late. Making changes in the 80th minute when your chasing a game very rarely comes off.....(Now waiting for a barrage of examples proving me wrong me thinks)

Just seen the goals, our defending looked awful. I suppose we wont be playing the West Hams off this world every week, but that defence has got to get tighter than that. The forwards welli hope someone does come good, you see these guys play, are they going to shoot us up to the champ or do we need yet another forward.
