This season's YP

mcrabb

First XI
I've not been overly impressed with my YP efforts this season. I've been trying to pull a semi-decent wicket-keeper/batsman. Was wondering what people thought I should do. These are the players that I've pulled so far...

Dunc Clegg - 17 yo, BT Rating=2,633 (Wages £457)
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, mediocre batting form, feeble bowling form, sublime
A steady player with proficient leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: mediocre
Batting: mediocre Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Kenny Conn - 17 yo, BT Rating=2,992 (Wages £582)
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, woeful batting form, strong bowling form, invigorated
A steady player with woeful leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: competent
Batting: mediocre Concentration: woeful
Bowling: worthless Consistency: woeful
Fielding: worthless

Sufyan Mcdonnell - 17 yo, BT Rating=3,898 (Wages £525)
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, fresh
An attacking player with feeble leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: mediocre
Batting: mediocre Concentration: woeful
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: woeful

I have a maximum of two spare nets to use to train someone (ideally WK and batting). Not sure it's worth considering Clegg as he's got the worst BTR and wages. But I'm not sure if it's worth keeping either of the other two. I'm leaning towards Mcdonnell as he already has semi-decent stamina but obviously Conn has competent WK. What do people reckon. Alternative is to look on the transfer market but I haven't really seen anyone much better than these that is trainable. My current WK is only 24 and is superb WK but only competent batting. I want to get a decent WK and batsman to replace him in a few seasons time.

To be honest I'd forget those three and wait for someone to come up on the list. If it has to be one of thopse I'd go for McDonnell as he has stamina.

I'd say the most important stats for a 17yo wicketkeeper trainee are batting and stamina. Stamina training just wastes a net that could be more productively used elsewhere. Batting takes the longest, so I'd be willing to sacrifice a level of wicketkeeping to get a higher level of batting. Of all positions, secondaries for wicketkeeper trainees is the one I'm least concerned about - as you will be training keeping anyway their secondaries will improve quicker than normal anyway.

On that basis, I'd say McDonnell is the one who would be quickest to train to the level you'd want, but I'd have a look on the market and see if you can get anything better (eg competent batting, even if its with feeble keeping)

This also means you can play both trainee WK and current WK if needs be, but the trainee just as a batsman.

I'm thinking of selling my respectable/woeful batting with competent WK when he pops in WK if you wish to wait, hopefully he'll pop soon.

How old is he? If he's still 17 then I'm definitely interested. You're probably expecting a decent price though.

I was bidding on a competent batsman and mediocre WK earlier today but his deadline was during a meeting and someone else bid £2000 more than my last bid :(

absolutely awful YP

Nyron Etherington (1306714)

RH Batsman, RF Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, fresh
A steady player with feeble leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Napster's XI
Nationality: England
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 103
Wages: £250 p/w

Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: abysmal Concentration: worthless
Bowling: worthless Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: worthless

The Nyron I pulled last season was somewhat better. The new England U-19 manager is trying to get me to put him on 3 batting nets but I've resisted the temptation.

Not mine, but decent,

Deadline:
07/06/2007 15:18

Current Bid:
£100,000 by Nidge Irons

Graham Sherrington (1304319)

RH Batsman, LFM Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, fresh
A destructive player with superb leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Guttermouth Allstars
Nationality: Australia
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 7,957
Wages: £1,484 p/w

Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: respectable
Batting: respectable Concentration: woeful
Bowling: mediocre Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: mediocre

Very nice indeed, the concentration will rush up anyway so he would be ideal. Can see the price getting a bit higher though!
