On target - Charley Kendall celebrates scoring for Southend United against Wealdstone (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

CHARLEY Kendall feels something special is brewing at Southend United.

The Shrimpers striker was among the goalscorers in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Wealdstone at Roots Hall.
And, with Blues now among the play-off places, Kendall is keen to maintain momentum.

“I’ve been involved in play-off charges before but it just feels different this time and more special coming from where we were when I first joined,” said Kendall.

“Hopefully we can sneak in these last couple of games but we’ve just go to enjoy it.”

Kendall certainly relished the win at the weekend and was delighted to play his part by scoring for the second game in succession.

“I’m buzzing,” said Kendall.

“To win a game of footy at home in front of that amount of people is special but the circumstances around it and scoring three goals as well mean we’re buzzing with it.

“I’m pretty happy with my goal too.

“At one up you’re never safe so getting that second one took the pressure off a bit and allowed us to play more freely too.”

Avoiding defeat at eighth placed Gateshead on Monday will now make sure of a place in the play-offs for Blues.

But Kendall is taking nothing for granted.

“We have to stay calm and composed for a massive game,” said Kendall.

“We’ve still got a lot of work to do but bring it on.”
