The World's Greatest Living Striker

Matt the Shrimp

aka Harry Potter
In news that will no doubt distress and surprise Hooly, Graham Barrow, the Bury FC manager, says that Graeme Jones's future at Bury is in doubt.

Here's the story from www.sportinglife.com:

Graeme Jones' days at Bury may be numbered, according to manager Graham Barrow.

The 34-year-old, who joined Bury on a free transfer from Boston United in the summer, has been struggling with a calf injury for most of the season.

"A troublesome calf problem has kept Graeme on the sidelines for most of the season," Barrow told the Bury Times.

"Graeme's injury is a problem for us as it is dragging on. He was brought in to do that (centre forward) job but if we aren't going to get him fit we'll need to get someone else in.

"Graeme's age is against him and the way it is going there has to be a doubt about him continuing."

Amazing "Graeme Jones in Injury Shock" headline.

They must have the same doctor we had, who failed to spot that he has one leg shorter than the other! I don't wish him personally anything really, really horrible, but finally a message on this bleeding message board that makes sense!

Probably because I didn't write the story itself...

Being a soft and sympathetic old fool, part of me feels sorry for TWGLS. How difficult must it be to have one complete wonder-season (what did he get, 35 in one season for Wigan?), and then be unutterably sh*te ever after...?

Hey ho. I don't feel that sorry for him, I should point out. I still haven't forgiven him for, first, his utter petulance in ripping the ball from the hands of a (then) very young Tes Bramble in order to take the penalty at Rushden so as to break his Shrimpers scoring duck... and then, for his utter sh*tness at failing even to hit the target. What a pr*ck.

Sounds like Constance to me... I wonder if his ears are burning?

Being a miserable old git none of me feels sorry for TWGLCF.

But no, seriously, I think virtually the entire blame for my pathological hatred can be laid at Rob Newman & his ludicrous 20 goals claim, which was patently stupid based on the well known fact that GJ had average about 5 appearances each of the previous 4 seasons. Jones was just hapless & I should forgive him. Yea likely!!

It seemed strange that having been injured quite a lot last year at Boston, after we let him go due to chronic fitness problems & then retiring, Bury dug him out of the footballing grave in the first place. Would appear that he's passed the Diver's boot onto Wayne Gray.

The only thing that's surprised me about Bury is how they've started the season... they were my ante-post favourites for the drop.

That view was merely reinforced when it appeared that they were turning to the questionable talents of Mr. G. Jones in order to produce goals...

P.S. Fair point about Newman... that episode was one of his biggest errors of judgement as manager.

Personally I feel that his biggest error was not taking a stand over the introducation of Stewart Robson, one thing that Wignall did do correctly.

I feel sorry for Graeme Jones because at the end of the day people's health are the most important thing but to be perfectly honest, he was sh*te weren't he!?

Matt, great message on the y3kshakers site.

JONES MUST STAY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cant believe we're contemplating getting rid off him.
he's injured and when he's fit again he will be a goal machine we just have to be patient and wait for him to come back.
we're set up just nicely for his style and who else are we gonna get anyhow?? i cant think off anyone i want i just think we're being to hasty as jones is an out and out goalscorer always has been always will be.

Graeme Jones a GOAL MACHINE!!!!

Not even his love child McScriven would defend that!

You will note that I tipped Bury for relegation prior to the start of the season. Phrases like this merely cement the reasonableness of my view...
