If we sell him in the summer, the fee is decided by a Tribunal if the 2 sides can't agree. He won't be going for nothing.

As i have said on another thread, quite glad he is staying, he could be worth say an extra 15 points, and at least staying in this league, If Ron was really only interested in getting as much money as he could for DB, then before turning down 1.25m from QPR, it might have been a good idea to find out if DB was prepared to extend his contract or not.

Which part not true?

Bentley won't leave for nothing as he is under 24, therefore when his contract runs out a transfer fee will be decided by tribunal if SUFC and the buying club can't reach an agreement.

Crap research by the reporter for the story on that site

Using the Cresswell deal as an template, we'd stand to gain around £1.1m not including profit from future sales:

especially this bit:
ANTHONY STRAKER

  • Anthony Straker joined Aldershot aged 18 having been released by Crystal Palace and went on to make in the region of 200 appearances in the Conference and League Two. He rejected a new contract, and aged 22 signed for Southend United on a two year deal.
  • The PFCC decided that Southend United should pay Aldershot an initial compensation fee of £17,500.
  • Additionally, Southend United would pay an additional £5,000 if they won promotion to League One during the two year contract.
  • Southend will also pay Aldershot 20% of any profit it makes from selling the player to another club at any point in the future.

It's not based on appearances. Straker made 200 appearances for Aldershot and they got* £17,500.

I'd expect it to be more along the lines of the Robert Hall transfer. Bentley has played lots of league games but doesn't have the international recognition that marks him out as the best young player in the country in his position.

*assuming Ron remembered to pay them

Its also based on actual offers that have been made for the player and the provable amount of interest in signing him. So perhaps as QPR tabled specific bids they will be taken into account when calculating his market worth.

Yes, but we don't know how those offers were structured. We were told £1m, but was it £500,000 up front and then £250,000 if QPR are promoted and then a further £250,000 based on appearances? If so, it would be along the lines of the Hall transfer.

Well providing we get at least the offer, what's the problem? Dan is easily worth 10 points and it's not like the money would have been reinvested in the squad. We would have signed a keeper on a free/loan and money would have gone elsewhere.

Fair play to Martin I say!

This was in the conference / League 2. If he goes at the end of the season, Bentley will have completed over half the number of game Creswell had in L1 with double the total number of games in all divisions.

He didn't! Don't you remember we ended up under an embargo?
